Things get dicey in the new episode of this wonderful series. First of all, Anne doesn't know what to do or say when Gilbert's father finally succumbs. Also, a shipment that Matthew sent is lost on a sunken ship. He must take out a new mortgage on Green Gables. Once again that awful child chides Anne for being poor, but Anne had no idea what had happened and leaps to the conclusion that they will get rid of her. Anne also meets the elderly aunt of her friend who was in what must have been a lesbian relationship. She has lost her partner. We need to draw our own conclusions, of course, because this book was written at a time when it would have been scandalous. They were just "dear old friends."
