Even when they do it right they can't get any respect
crazelord9 May 2022
It's a good parody and critique on female reboots of media that originally starred men. It wasn't a brilliant episode but the ladies of the show are always great, and Katlin Olsen is always hilarious.

But women can't win even when they're generally agreeing with an angry male audience. It hit all the topics and tropes of these kinds of reboots and basically made it clear that even women often don't appreciate the pandering and would appreciate their own things.

So the panning of the episode makes me think it often really does come down to a feeling that "the icky girls are trying to steal our things!" Even when they're telling you you're right they're still wrong.

Though tbf, I guess in the end it is a less funny version of a classic episode and the concept is very on the nose so it probably urks people more and it's what keeps me from reviewing this higher, even though I think that was the point.

Perfect For What They're Saying
dilleddie24 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was really good. They're obviously touching on the female reboots that haven't been "home runs"...Ghostbusters, Oceans 8 etc. and like those female reboots, this reboot of the Bogs episode was really good but not great (on purpose) mimicking the succes/failure that is the "female reboot" these days. I am a male and I found this episode hilarious. The talents of most of the women from Sunny shine in this episode at the same time self proclaiming they need to not only reboot what the men have done but do one better if not being original. And boy do they. I'm not saying this is the best episode ever but I feel it accomplished what they set out to say while still still being funny. Kaitlin Olson is fantastic and Artemis Pebdani shines while Charlie and Mac's mom are hilarious. Some male regulars show up I believe to let the regular viewers know they're still watching It's Always Sunny, however unnecessary because with the message of this episode they could have done without but still comical. Good message, funny and still contemporary. Keep it up Sunny, good stuff.

Decent but not great
adafafjunior20 September 2018
Obviously the show works best when all the 5 main leads are there together. This episode was not as good as the older version but it was good. This was clearly a shout-out to movies and stuff which make a female reboot just cause of feminism and stuff and it turns out a flop. IMO, thats what IASIP members have tried to do. And the scenes with the Gugino waiter were pretty good, especially when Dee tried to blame him falsely for hitting her and discriminating her because she was a woman, which we all have heard and seen IRL. Would have been good if Charlie's mom tried some homeruns :) Hoping for some better episodes in the future cause this was not on par with episodes they have done in the past.

Not that bad

I know it has some of the least good humour in the show BUT it is way better and smarter than any sitcom episode also rated 6.7. Just because this show raises such a high bar, doesn't mean ok episodes have to be given such low scores.

Painfully mediocre
trevorevor22 September 2018
One of the few episodes in the entire series that just falls short of to the typical standard of quality that Always Sunny usually reaches.

I commend them for trying new ideas, and in some ways it worked well; but overall everything just felt off. A lot of the jokes felt forced, and the characters just don't seem to work as well together as the typical gang we're used to. The obvious message of "women are equal to men" came across as a bit too preachy, which is out of place for this show considering they've covered much more controversial topics without bringing out that same feeling.

Overall, this episode was alright. Some good parts, some bad parts. Nothing particularly special or memorable.

its an excellent episode, why such low grades here?
quaseprovisorio11 September 2021
I mean i loved every character on this episode. Artemis' scheme was great and her lines about female empowerment by tea and rocks were absolutely top notch. Dee shines here and she is perfect on being the sellfissh prick that just wants to beat the boys at any cost. The waiter is great, i laughed my ass off with frank's t-shirt...and it has charlie's and mac's mom who is one of the funniest characters on the whole show for me.

I dont tend to give opinions on tv episodes but seeing this so unfairly rated kinda oblige me to do this. It is a great episode and what dee was always about: being the girl in the middle of the guys and the conflicts she had with that since the beggining. And all the secundary characters work and have funny archs. Really loved it.

Kaitlin Olson is an angel sent from Heaven to teach us about comedy.
marthaburns-4367621 September 2018
Lots of laughs, all the women bounced off each other hilariously. Was fun seeing the return of some older characters and the cameos from the guys. Kaitlin Olson was incredible as per and such a joy to watch.

One of the worst episodes in show history
csgreen-5692326 September 2018
This episode was awful. Artemis is humorless and Waitress' alcoholism plot is played out. Charlie's mom and Mac's mom can be funny...in doses.

Listen, I like Dee as a character and think she is, not only hilarious, but one of the most integral characters in the show. The show doesn't work without her. She carried this episode, in fact, as much as she could. I'm happy they gave Kaitlin Olsen an opportunity to shine but they missed this great opportunity because of the lack of chemistry with the characters they focused on in "TGBB: Ladies Reboot."

It just goes to show that the show is not the show without, at least, most of the main cast (excuse my redundancy - I am quite the wordsmith).

I hope it's not sexisim. It's probably sexisim. But it's a great episode. Not one of the best, but still high quality Sunny.

Y'all rating this episode one star have literally no critcal thinking skills and are basing your opinions entirely in misogyny. The writers of this show have always been feminist and liberal but yall cant read in between the lines lmao

Great ideas/message, medium funny
ephuycke15 December 2020
A lot of hate for this episode. It's lampooning Hollywood's halfhearted and condescending attempts at creating feminist content without really metabolizing what is systemically problematic about the entertainment industry, and I think what runs a lot of people the wrong way is that it does that without being as outwardly funny as SUNNY usually is. This is where people start treating media like a vacuum cleaner or fast food, a mass produced product that is supposed to do a-b-c, and when it doesn't, it offends our customer-is-always-right sensibilities. Media is always buyer-beware. That's why they say you should check your expectations at the door.

There are a handful of other episodes in SUNNY like this, where they get a big concept that ends up overshadowing the actual comedy, THE GANG CRACKS THE LIBERTY BELL, FRANK'S BROTHER, A CRICKET'S TALE, etc.

For everyone who's plastering this review page with 1-star ratings, ok, fine, but answer me this, how many other prime time American sitcoms are as ambitious in their commentary as SUNNY is even in its weaker episodes? In a landscape absolutely littered with homogenous, predictable, uncritical tripe, SUNNY is as incisive and insightful as ever, and I think that's worth something better than "waaaaaah! worst. episode. ever!"

But hey, what do I know?

AM I seriously the only one who hated it?
pledgerock24 September 2018
This has been one of the worst episodes of Sunny yet. My rating has nothing to do with having an all women episode, that's great, it just wasn't funny. The idea had been done before, I wish they did something new instead of a rehash of an earlier episode. This season hasn't been great, first two episodes were decent but this is just terrible. Step it up!

This one is a homerun.
jasonklingensmith20 September 2018
I've been a Sunny fan since the beginning. I've seen every episode. Almost every episode in the first 6 or 7 seasons was absolute gold. There's a been a lot of hit or miss in recent years, and it's kind of downhill. This episode, though, was great. It was a perfect commentary on the ridiculous nature of some of the remakes and reboots currently being done. It may have been the best episode since the original "Gang Beats Boggs".

This episode was super funny and Kaitlin Olson is the funniest woman on the planet. I loved that the episode was all about Dee and the other female characters on the show. They are all hilarious.

Disappointed in this episode, season.
connorswanson11 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
It's always sunny is my favorite show of all time and i have watched every episode hundreds of times. It's the show that i put on repeat and in the back ground. I thought it would get old after watching the show an unhealthy amount of times from the beginning to the end. But it didnt and i look forward to showing my kids this show whenever i am older. Point being. i love this show so much. But season 13 has not been what i have expected so far. This episode specific gang beats boggs: ladies reboot. I thought it was one of the worst episodes they have ever made i really just did not understand why they had to go back to beating boggs. That was really the best they could do? I understand they are trying to make a bigger point then whats happening in the episode but i just thought it was lazy writing. They have had two years to make this season and i am not impressed with the way they have chosen to make this season. I did not think the episode was funny at all because i just couldn't get over the question of what the hell are they doing. and why? They are starting to put too much politics into the show and im really afraid im not gonna like how the series ends. Will dennis be back fulltime next season? Very disappointed in how season 13 is becoming political. One of the reasons i loved the show was because they were unknown actors. It would appear to me they are getting to the points in their careers where they just dont care. and that disappoints me.

Really enjoyed this episode. It was great to see more of the ladies of IASIP. This episode also has a lot of little surprises which had me cackling with laughter. It was well written and I loved every second.

Jumped the SHARK
markrs6824 September 2018
My favorite show on TV has imploded!! What used to be a Smart, Funny and relevant show has become a mere characture of its formal self. It is no longer enjoyable to watch the cast who developed into some of the most iconic characters on television but who after 12 years, appear to be walking through their lines. After 3, painful to watch, episodes into the13th season, I'm left thinking how is this show going to end with the dignity and grace it deserves. It's all too obvious that the lights at Paddy's need to be turned off for good and real soon. But I seriously doubt if anyone really cares anymore at this point.

Enjoyed watching dudebro's meltdown over an episode that wasn't about them
deducingdancy21 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Kaitlin Olson truly shines in this episode. Without the rest of the gang bringing her down, we finally get to see her head a scheme to her complete and vulgar capacity. Completely brushing aside a significant event in women's history, we watch as the ladies try to recreate the Boggs challenge while desperately trying - and failing - to make it their own. It was the only really funny episode of the season and has made the male audience incredibly uncomfortable because the satire has not only gone over their heads, but the absent of dick has proven too offensive to their sensibilities in a show that has made fun of women for the last 12 years

I'm sorry for all the low raters who aren't funny but think they are
superdupper21 September 2018
Artemis was hilarious, the cameos from the rest of the gang were slotted in in such a smart way, and frankly an episode like this that develops Dee and puts her in charge of something is long overdue. Kaitlin Olsen did us proud!

Uninspired
oldchummer24 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This season feels as if its gone on autopilot thus far. We didn't need to see a re-do/different version of the Boggs episode. Being 13 seasons in its incredibly hard for a show to feel original anymore, and even with intriguing plot devolopments in the last season (Mac coming out as gay, Charlie and the Waitress getting together, Dennis becoming a dad), it starting to seem that these were all distractions from the show starting to become tired. Aside from being a unfunny rehash of an earlier episode, it should be noted that sexism has been tackled plenty of times in the show in much funnier ways. The ways both Dennis and Frank treat women (and sometimes Mac and Charlie) is never meant to be seen as a good thing, so it especially doesn't feel like there's any new explored territory thematically either. It doesn't particularly help that the female characters are all just as despicable as their male co-stars in the show, being this is supposed to be the female empowerment episode. Dee has been known to not only objectify herself, but also falsly accuse men of sexual assault (watch The Gang Goes To Hell pt 1 for reference), and to add to that she tries to frame the only male waitor (the Guigino's waitor) into assaulting her. This was a total comedic misfire. This is my favorite show, so I don't say that lightly.
