Actor, comedian and activist Emily Atack has signed with Curtis Brown for representation, Variety has learned exclusively. She will be repped by the agency in all areas.
Atack shot to public attention as the break-out star of award-winning sitcom “The Inbetweeners” and has since appeared in projects including “Dad’s Army” with Catherine Zeta Jones and Bill Nighy, “Lies We Tell” alongside Gabriel Byrne and Harvey Keitel and “Alright Now” starring Cobie Smulders.
She wrote and starred in her own sketch/comedy series “The Emily Atack Show” for ITV, which has run for three seasons, and has also appeared on other comedy and panel shows including “The Keith Lemon Sketch Show,” “Tracey Ullman’s Show” and “Celebrity Juice.”
Atack will next be seen in Disney+ adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s best-selling novel “Rivals,” which drops this fall. She plays ambitious politician’s wife Sarah Stratton opposite “W1A’s” Rufus Jones as deputy Prime Minister Paul Stratton.

Prime Video got off to a fast start this summer with the release of The Boys season 3 on June 3. Now, as we enter the dog days, Prime Video is set to keep the warm weather good times rolling with a new twist on an old classic. That’s right, Amazon’s list of new releases for August 2022 is highlighted by some good old-fashioned baseball.
A League of Their Own, the TV adaptation of Penny Marshall’s 1992 movie, is set to premiere on Aug. 12. Like the movie before it, the series will dramatize the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League which saw women playing America’s pastime while the major leagues were on pause for World War II. Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) co-created the show and will star as catcher Carson Shaw.
Other Prime Video Originals of note this month include season 2 of British comedy The Outlaws on and the Ron Howard-directed Thirteen Lives,...

Prime Video will continue rolling out its summer slate in the month of August, releasing new original series, as well as a mix of suspenseful films, action movies and more.
Amazon’s series version of “A League of Their Own” will debut its eight-episode first season on Aug. 12, introducing new characters and stories set in the historical opening of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League (Aagpbl).
Ron Howard’s “Thirteen Lives” tells the real-life story of how a young boys’ soccer team was rescued from the Thai mountain cave where they got stuck for 10 days along with their coach.
Other new film arrivals include hits from earlier this summer, “The Lost City” starring Sandra Bullock, Daniel Radcliffe, Channing Tatum and Brad Pitt, as well as “Sonic the Hedgehog 2.” Academy Award-nominated film “Licorice Pizza” also arrives on Prime Video this month.
Freevee will also have new arrivals this month.

SAG-AFTRA has issued a “Do Not Work” order for producer Jonathan Lopez’s series Ocean Rescue, saying that his company “is not signatory to any SAG-AFTRA agreement and has not executed a minimum basic agreement with SAG-AFTRA that is in full force and effect.”
Many of these Do Not Work orders are resolved when the producers sign the union’s contract, as was the case recently with SAG-AFTRA rescinding its order on Michael Bay’s Songbird.
Until then, however, the union said that “members are hereby instructed to withhold any acting services or performance of any covered work” for Ocean Rescue “until further notice.” The guild also told its members that “accepting employment or rendering services on Ocean Rescue may be considered a violation of Global Rule One. Violating this order may result in disciplinary action in accordance with the SAG-AFTRA Constitution.”

On-location film in Los Angeles plunged to its lowest levels on record for the second quarter due to the coronavirus pandemic, the FilmLA permitting agency reported Wednesday.
The report showed overall production plunged by 97.8% to only 194 shoot days as production remained shut down from March 20 to June 15. State and county officials gave film production the green light to resume in late June, but the permitting agency noted the return to work has been “gradual and cautious.”
Television slid 98.2% percent to 52 shoot days; commercials were off 95.5% to 58 days and feature film production was close to non-existent with three days.
“The first shutdowns we saw in March were voluntary, and it was hoped they could be temporary. Looking back, it was hard to imagine the impact the pandemic would have on entertainment projects in progress, and the economic security of local cast, crew, and production vendors,” noted FilmLA President Paul Audley. “The...

One way to overcome novel coronavirus production hurdles is to make a movie set during a pandemic: protective gear and lockdown play into the narrative itself.

Just as Hollywood was making moves to resume film and television production, the explosion of Covid-19 infections in large regions of the United States has forced studios and networks to react quickly to rapidly worsening news in the hopes of salvaging plans. Multiple insiders with knowledge of plans to resume filming tell TheWrap that preproduction work that began a few weeks ago on many projects is still moving forward. But those plans now have to take into account the rising infection rates in major production hubs like California and Georgia that could very soon render it impossible to shoot safely. For now, studios in Georgia have yet to close and applications are still being accepted for on-location filming in Los Angeles County. “It’s this weird suspended animation. Everyone is having conference calls but nothing is happening,” one studio insider told TheWrap. “There is going to be value to someone just starting.

In the midst of a pandemic Michael Bay is helping to produce a movie about….a pandemic. Think anyone’s trying to say something? Given that filming of the movie, Songbird, is taking place in California, which is tentatively reopening, almost like ripping off a bandage slowly and hoping it won’t hurt too much, it’s likely that he’ll have a few people saying a few different things. Tim Brinkhof of We Got This Covered is pretty certain it sounds like that people are going to be up in arm a bit about this since the whole quarantine process has been anything but

"There are some good things that came out of the 90s..." Gravitas Ventures has released an official trailer for an indie drama titled Alright Now, formerly titled Songbird. This just premiered at the Edinburgh Film Festival and will be hitting theaters + VOD next month, not too long of a wait to watch. Completely improvised and directed by Jamie Adams (Black Mountain Poets), Alright Now is a feel-good comedy about love, life and the search for new beginnings. Cobie Smulders stars as a 90s rock star who enrolls in a local college after her band falls apart. The full cast includes Richard Elis and Jessica Hynes, with Griffin Dunne, Noel Clarke, Holli Dempsey, and Mandeep Dhillon. I dig the super casual, mumblecore feel to this film. Seems like this has some charm and wisdom to offer, might be a good watch sometime. Check it. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Jamie Adams' Alright Now,...

Gravitas Ventures has acquired all North American rights to the Cobie Smulders comedy “Alright Now,” Variety has learned exclusively.
Jamie Adams, whose credits include “Black Mountain Poets,” directed from his own script. “Alright Now” is produced by Unstoppable Film & Television and Dignity Film Finance through its Fivelanes label. The film will be released in select theaters across the country and on demand on Sept. 7.
“Alright Now” follows Smulders as a rock musician who drunkenly enrolls in college after she breaks up with her boyfriend and her band falls apart. Convinced she will give the youngsters a run for their money, she is shocked to discover that no one knows who she is, and they could not care less about her rock star past.
“Working with Gravitas Ventures on ‘Alright Now’ is incredible, to know that my latest improvisation-led comedy is being released by such a legendary distributor is exciting,” Adams said.

Think of big screen science fiction, and it’s likely to bring to mind glossy images of alien spacecrafts obliterating the White House, monsters running amuck in New York or Tokyo, or a post-apocalyptic Los Angelean wasteland. It’s perhaps unsurprising that these are the moments which linger in our collective consciousness; on screen at least, such cataclysmic events are usually clustered around the world’s big cities, with filmmakers giving little thought to how they might play out elsewhere.
There have been exceptions of course, such as classics like Village Of The Damned (1960) and The Stepford Wives (1975) and, in more recent years, UK filmmakers have also been looking to redress the balance.
