Truthful depiction of the "modern" issues the middle class youth and their families face.

It sneaks up on you seeming like an average episode when in reality it explores a very common problem young adults and their parents face. That moment when you realise you are not where you are "supposed" to be in life. Not every kid in the US makes it to college, not every kid who made it to college succeeds in it and not every non-college-going kid makes it without that kind of education. Because that's not how life works, nobody becomes sucessful overnight (and not only money wise but in life)

There are no sides here, there are no enemies, sensible subjects, social justice issues. It's just another of the few depictions of a traditional family where the children reach an age where they are supposed to "leave the nest" and "start their lives" but not everything works as planned. It was refreshing to see the Dunphy's so vulnerable and lost, it makes it easier to relate to them and it showcases a very common issue of the "modern" families today.

Not only is it an issue in the US but also in countries all around the world. We have seen the issue being depicted in second or third world countries or in a minorities underdog-sort of uplifting tale, but not many stories involving the middle class families. This lends for a refreshing and eye-opening tale when the show was beginning to get a bit bland and repetitive

Episodes like this make me realize this show is not ruined at all, its not as good as it was in the first 5 seasons, but it still has a lot to offer, and i enjoy it!

Warning: Spoilers
The writers don't seem to know what to do with Haley or Alex by this point (in the case of the latter I don't think they ever really would again), so anything regarding them feels a bit messy, but other than that this is a fun episode of the show.

It manages to combine humour and heart, which all the best episodes of this show tend to do.
