A Return to the Show's Darker (and Better) Past
ThomasDrufke15 April 2018
The whole premise of this episode is both brilliant and frustrating. On one hand, it almost seems too derivative from my favorite Arrow episode of all time, "Three Ghosts", where Ollie is drugged and sees ghosts from his past that put him on a certain path mentally. However, on the other hand, I will always welcome back a return to the show's season 1 & 2 roots. I'm not sure how Ricardo Diaz was the villain to do it, but Oliver is finally going back to running the show all by himself. Heck, there's no Felicity on the team now either.

I shouldn't bury the lead here, the real story is the return of Josh Segarra's Adrian Chase/Prometheus. I absolutely loved the way they handled him as Oliver's hallucination and subconscious in a way. If anyone has played Arkham Knight, it sure felt a whole lot like that certain dead character who turns out around the city in surprising places to make Batman feel uneasy to say the least. It's also funny they chose now to bring him back considering Diaz STILL has yet to really prove himself as the big bad, and then you have an episode with Chase that just makes me miss season 5.

Most of the rest of the episode wasn't anything I'm going to remember all that much. The obvious things to note were the return of Chase, the brief glimpse back into the mansion, and the fact that Oliver is now officially alone. It's of course disappointing that the opening credits spoiled Segarra's return, but at least he lived up to the hype of having "someone decidedly dead" returning to the show. Up next in that regard, Tommy!

A much needed fan service

Warning: Spoilers
This season of Arrow has been up and down with some good and some bad. However, none of these episodes hooked me as well as this one did. The opening fight scene was well choreographed and just so brutal, you could sense Oliver's tension. While he won't be going back to the OG Arrow uniform, I believe this is much needed closure for all of the people out there who always complain about this show sucking after the first two seasons.

Man this episode went way back to basics
highmarksreviews13 April 2018
Where to start? Arrow's troubled sixth season might just have found it's new high-point. "Fundamentals" is a triumph not just for its brutal SCPD battle, political element or family issues, but rather the psychological trauma that Oliver (Stephen Amell) had to tackle. The episode incorporated effects of past seasons and some great cinematography to craft a traumatic experience. Sadly enough, the season is coming to an end soon and I feel that themes like this could have played all the way through the first half of the season. With the supporting cast cut, exceptionally strong performances all around and the "return" of an amazing villain fueled this week's drama that stripped Oliver Queen down to his core and was probably one of the shows darkest chapters ever.

Best Season 6 Episode
jumper2813 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
For the first time since season 3, the episode was focused on the character of Oliver and Oliver alone. For the first time this season we see some character development for Oliver and get a nostalgic take back to his past. Bringing back Prometheus as the narrator of his hallucinations was the cherry on top as Adrian knew Oliver's mental state better than anyone as a villain. Easily 10/10, season 6 finally gets a direction.

Best episode this season.

Warning: Spoilers
Wow. This episode was great. The Vertigo entering Oliver's system via a handshake really messes with him. He sees Adrian a chase aka Prometheus and they duel though it's not real. Oliver then goes up the elevator and walks into the Queen Mansion and "talks" a season 1 Laurel before he leaves with Sara for the Queen's Gambit. Then it fast forwards to a hospital room with a dying Laurel of course Chase is there, he will be for the whole episode. Then it goes to Renee's room and Oliver sees Dinah, Renee and Curtis. They all sort of belittle him. Oliver then goes back to the Arrow Cave and sees a season 1 version of him in his old suit (and green grease paint) and he tells himself that he's lost focus of the mission, that there was supposed me no John Diggle, no Felicity Smoak, no Team Arrow, no Green Arrow. We then see Oliver passed out on the floor and he proceeds to go to his impeachment hearing. He plays the card that Felicity gave him (a flash drive with dirt on the DA and police captain that he fired for working for Ricardo Diaz). Oliver leaves and we cut to Felicity and William coming back from a science fair and William points out that her purse is beeping. The tracker she put on Oliver is active. He goes to the former police station (in his season 1 suit). Quentin tries to stop him but Oliver knocks him out. Felicity arrives and tells Quentin to leave and she runs into the station. Oliver (as we see in the beginning of the episode) mows down a bunch of dirty cops and is about to go into the room but Felicity stops him. Chase tries to lead him to his death but the Vertigo wears off. Overall this episode had some season 1/2 vibes. 10/10. No negatives about it.

The Arrow We Love is Back
finishline2814 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The Arrow we all fell in love with is back in this episode. So I personally still have loved Arrow throughout its "not so great" episodes lately, but Thursday night's episodes was one to be put down in history as one of the best ever. In this episode, the Green Arrow faces his greatest foe: himself. After being dosed with vertigo unknowingly, Oliver goes through an insane trip with one other than Adrian Chase, the one villain that was able to get into his head last year. Adrian works as Oliver's subconscious feelings to bring out his worst fears. After being impeached and reminded of his own failures and downfalls he has had recently, Oliver realizes that in order to save the city he has to go back to his roots, fighting alone and with no mercy. The Hood returns in full frontal deciding to go afte Diaz on his own. Oliver nearly falls into his demise until Felicity reaches him and manages to pull him out of the hallucination for a moment and save him. The episode concludes with Oliver deciding to remain alone in his quest, telling Felicity now as well that this is the only way to stop Diaz. In the final scene, we see Earth 2 Laurel and Diaz discussing how they will finally destroy the Green Arrow once and for all...

The best episode this season
danb19823 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Season six hasn't been great, I think it's safe to say that!

Episodes like this is why I continue to watch and hope it will get better, and boy did it!

Oliver got dosed with Vertigo which messed with his head like we've never before, making him seriously doubt himself. This meant one of the best big bads made a return in the form of Prometheus.

The episode was played out so well, I felt like I was there with Oliver when the Vertigo was working it's evil magic.

Initially I thought Diaz was a poor choice for the main antagonist, but with this episode he really stepped up and showed he's a BIG threat to Star City.

Episodes like this are why I love this show. 10/10.

Great.. But somehow funny?
mohammeddina-0855313 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was the best so far this season. I liked the idea of a fan-favorite villain returning for at least one episode.

However, it's funny how the ghost of Adrian Chase who starred in only 1 episode was better than Ricardo Diaz this whole season. Let's hope it will change next week with the villain-centered episode. I need Diaz to look like a badass, a man everyone fears, so he doesn't go down as a bad villain.

My 1st Arrow review because this was the best episode of S6.
Prad-Pitt24 November 2020
Different pace and alot less clutter gives Arrow some much needed room to breath and being pensive away from the whole gang really worked wonders. Never rated an Arrow episode on IMDB before but I this episode reminded me of the good times and stood out as the best this season (so far with only a few episodes to go).

ARROW needs to get high more often.

A few goofs but good throwback
squallsrapture25 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Contains mild spoilers unimportant to the overarching plot

Oddly the thing that bugged me the least was the 20 shots Adrian Chase fired out of his revolver. Because I'm an adult and can understand he was a hallucination and therefore isnt bound by the laws of reloading.

What did bother me was the writers thinking "impeachment" means removal from office when it is in fact the legal hearing and due process. Clinton was impeached. He was never removed. Come on guys, research.

Other than that, the old suit coming back, the eye make up, the dark voice. And just shooting a bow and arrow at will. Great throwback with a solid mind game.
