USA overthrows the socialist leader Salvador Allende in a coup. Meanwhile MPLA wins the Angolan civil war under the leadership of Augustinho Neto. USSR and USA sign the SALT II agreement in order to retain peace.
USSR helps establish a communist government in Afghanistan. USA funds Islamic fundamentalists, who call themselves Mujahideen to fight a civil war against the newly established government.
The New Jewel Movement under the leadership of Maurice Bishop overthrows the US-backed regime of Eric Gairy in a bloodless coup in Grenada. The warmonger Ronald Reagan sends in the marines to invade the Carribean country.
Mikhail Gorbachev launches glasnost and perestroika. A coup attempt to overthrow Gorbachev fails. The mighty USSR comes to an end on 26 December 1991 as Boris Yeltsin becomes the President of Russia.
