Make no mistake: despite Elton John's great effort with this song the man who owns the moment in this clip is Robert Downey Jr. For those who followed his career over the years, they know exactly that his appearance in this clip was the beginning of one of the most spectacular career resurrections of all time. When the late 1990's broke out, RDJ wasn't in the best of shape with plenty of legal and personal problems and his career seemed over with minor good films and some bombs in his resume. But his talent was always evident, and people still gave him a chance to redeem himself and show that he wasn't over, he still had some more kicks to give. And this clip is an evident and clear proof of his acting abilities, strength and discipline which turned him into a greater actor than he was back in his early movies...and now he's in one successful project after another and a truly changed man.

Here's a song that brings a desire of wanting something more out of life, a hunger that never ceases in most of us human beings. We all want love. It's an eternal craving for something more, something that makes us feel complete, deserving of all the good things life could have offer. And there are moments when we feel exactly like wishing, hoping for this special thing, almost like a cry for help or for some appreciation. And no other actor could have bring more qualities and meaning to the music than RDJ. His pain, his torment is fully noticeable and gives the song a deeper meaning; it feels as if he's saying that despite everything wrong that has happened to him, he's still someone wishing for a better thing, hopeful days and all the love he can give and get. Open hearted and soul crushing, he embodies the song just like his character did in "Heart and Souls" when he was "possessed" by Charles Grodin character whose greatest wish was to perform in front of an audience. Elton has the voice and the message but it's Downey who deliver to us with grace, passion and beauty.
Like many of his fans, I believe this is the moment where the tables turned and his second rise started. From the on, he climbed the ladder with minor yet important film roles, then Lincoln Osiris, Tony Stark came to put him back in the game for good and he never stopped.
The clip in terms of presentation is very simple, might not impress many people but it works for me. Another suggestion as for Elton John's clip is the incredible "This Train Don't Stop There Anymore" (also from the same album "Songs from the West Coast") which features Justin Timberlake playing the 1970's Elton in a fantastic performance.
