Filmed on President's Day weekend in 2015, one of the coldest weekends on record. The temperature dropped as low as -2 degrees Fahrenheit when the night scene in the woods was shot.
If you look closely, you can see ice form around The Beta Man's beard in the final scene due to 50 mph wind gusts in 10 degree weather. Uncommonly cold even for the dead of winter in Southern Jersey.
Principle photography lasted 4 days with pickup shots (sunrise, Colleen's flashbacks) done up until it's release in May.
The character of The Beta Man (originally named Daniel in the script) was written specifically for Devin Cheney. Sean came up with the idea while driving on an abandoned road and pictured himself as the last man alive. He combined characteristics of himself and Devin in the character The Beta Man.
Director Sean McDermott showed department heads I Am Legend (2007), Children of Men (2006), and The Road (2009) to give them ideas on the look of the film.
