-What is surprising in this historical document, apart from the fluidity of its images, is of course the pomp surrounding the funeral ceremony, but also the total absence of women in the ranks of dignitaries. Even among the huge audience, they are very rare.
-"The Funeral of Sir Wilfrid Laurier" was filmed in February 1919 in Ottawa (Canada).
The popular infatuation surrounding Wilfrid Laurier's personality had led Léo-Ernest Ouimet to print 22 copies of the film, which was exceptional at the time. Less than 24 hours after the funeral, five movie theatres in Montreal (Canada), including the St-Denis theatre and the Loews, were showing these images.
