[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 4 Episode 9 “Semper Fi.”] It’s not easy to make a person see that they need help, as is the case with Joe Jr. (Michael Trotter) on Law & Order: Organized Crime when his brothers, Elliot (Christopher Meloni) and Randall (Dean Norris) try to hold an intervention after finding drugs in his hotel room. Joe goes on the defensive, even bringing up how his brothers got into it at that (already infamous) Stabler family dinner and refusing any help, especially Randall’s rehab pitch. He storms out and goes to Randall’s, where their mother Bernadette (Ellen Burstyn) is staying to ask about her rainy day stash because he needs to leave town for a bit. Then, when she says she spent it, he grabs the Mickey Mantle-signed baseball and storms out. Can he stop himself from selling it in his current emotional state? “No, I don’t ...

The intervention that took place in this week’s Law & Order: Organized Crime went even worse than the one that took place in the show’s first season… which is really saying something.
As the episode’s synopsis teased, Elliot and Randall confronted their younger brother, Joe Jr., about his heroin use (and possible selling) during a tense conversation during this week’s hour. In the lead-up, El shared with Randall that he suspected Joe’s drug use began in Afghanistan. And when they broke into Joe’s place, they found needles, drugs and rolls of cash. “We’ve...

Dean Norris & Michael Trotter Talk ‘Organized Crime’ ‘Intense’ Stabler Brothers Intervention (Video)
It’s time for (another) Stabler family intervention on Law & Order: Organized Crime, and unsurprisingly, it doesn’t go well. In the April 11 episode, “Semper Fi,” Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) leans into his military network to search for the source of a Middle Eastern heroin pipeline making its way to the U.S. Plus, Joe Jr. (Michael Trotter) takes drastic action when his brothers try to stage an intervention. And as you can see in the sneak peek above, Elliot and Randall’s (Dean Norris) attempt to help their brother does not go well at all. “It’s not the easiest thing to take a junkie in a single scene and turn him into a good guy,” Norris tells TV Insider. “We have fun trying!” Joe “feels betrayed,” according to Trotter, because his brothers trick him into thinking they’re going to have a night out together. “Any opportunity [for that] he kind of craves,...

And you thought that Stabler family dinner was tense.
This Thursday’s Law & Order: Organized Crime (NBC, 10/9c) will find Randall and Elliot attempting to help Joe Jr., whom they’re fairly sure is using heroin. Given the episode’s official synopsis — which notes that “Joe Jr. takes drastic action when his brothers try to stage an intervention” — we’re guessing that this intervention will go roughly as well as Elliot’s in Season 1. (Maybe Joe Jr. will even blurt out “I love you” to an unsuspecting participant?)

The history of adapting video games to the big or small screen is kind of hit and miss in Hollywood since too often it’s seen that the source material isn’t always followed and if it is then things become insanely cheesy and just don’t work anyway. But as Zak Wojnar of Screenrant writes, the effort is being put in to make sure that Brothers in Arms is bound to be just as entertaining on screen as it was in the video game. People have been hooked on war games for a long time now, but there’s something different about Brothers

The Brothers in Arms video game franchise is being adapted into a television series that will be run by producer and writer Scott Rosenbaum.
“I’m honored to be joining the frontlines of this project and look forward to creating an emotional experience around a title that means so much to the Gearbox community,” says Rosenbaum. “What attracted me to this series was that while it’s effectively a show about war, the series is really about the incredible stories of the ordinary men and women, from the soldiers, resistance groups, to local civilians who are confronted and overcame impossibly difficult, extraordinary situations. In addition, it’s incredibly exciting to be able to bring these previously classified, unknown stories to an audience, stories that an audience is going to be quite frankly shocked they hadn’t heard before.”

It’s not that Jai Courtney is a bad actor, but his latest film, “Semper Fi,” just shows how many times he hasn’t been able to tap into what makes him such an engaging on-screen presence. Excluding his delightfully-scrappy turn as Captain Boomerang in “Suicide Squad” (your mileage may vary on the rest of that one), Courtney really hasn’t had an opportunity to really prove his worth with only a handful of franchise nonstarters and supporting turns to build on.

I was able to get an early screener for the movie Semper Fi last weekend, and I was really surprised by the film. It was co-written and directed by Henry Alex Rubin, and co-written by Sean Mullin (Amira and Sam). The film stars Jai Courtney (The Suicide Squad), Nat Wolff (Paper Towns), Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl), Finn Wittrock (American Horror Story), Beau Knapp (Destroyer), and Arturo Castro (Narcos).
In the film, Cal (Courtney) is a police officer in the Marine Corps Reserve who is trying to get by while helping his younger half-brother Oyster (Wolff) stay out of trouble. Though such niceties tend to get lost in the blunt language of “hawks” and “doves,” there’s actually a more useful distinction to be drawn when it comes to support for war, or lack thereof. It’s between people who believe a conflict fought should be a just one, and those who trust any conflict their side is engaged in must be just, because how can “the good guys” be wrong? This demarcation also tends to apply to combat-related movies: They assume viewers are securely on the side of the victors (like most films about any aspect of the World Wars), or they question not individual valor but the righteousness of the cause itself, as most features about the Vietnam War have done.

The horrors of murder, war, imprisonment and abuse somehow make for a drab little drama in Henry Alex Rubin’s sincere, but unremarkable “Semper Fi.”
The film takes events which should be riveting and makes them stalwart, pushing the biggest emotions and most complicated thoughts into too-short scenes that feel isolated from the rest of the movie. A documentary about these characters’ therapy sessions would be fascinating. The movie about how they got there? Not so much.
“Semper Fi” stars Jai Courtney as Callahan, a police officer and Marine Reservist, whose brother Oyster has always been a bit of screw up. Callahan had to call in favors to get the Marines to waive Oyster’s prior felonies so he could join the service. Callahan had to get Oyster his job at a burger joint. "I didn't need you to be my dad, I just needed you to be my brother." Lionsgate has released a trailer for a film titled Semper Fi, originally called Edge of Dawn while in development. The title is a reference to the Marine Corps slogan "semper fi" (in full: semper fidelis), which means "always loyal". The plot is about a police officer who serves in the Marine Corps Reserves who is faced with an ethical dilemma when it comes to helping his brother in prison. Jai Courtney stars as the "by-the-book" officer Cal, and Nat Wolff plays his brother. Also starring Leighton Meester, Finn Wittrock, Arturo Castro, Beau Knapp, Rachel Hendrix, Wayne Pére, Ashton Leigh, Sylvia Grace Crim, Lance E. Nichols, and Rob Mello. This has an interesting premise that plays on morals, but it doesn't seem like this has much to offer besides that. Here's the official trailer for...
