In a flashback, Chuck is congratulated by everyone in the office for winning a difficult case. Kim lays on even more compliments to which Chuck quips "Hail the Conquering Hero". That is also the title of a 1944 movie in which the protagonist is mistaken for a war hero and falsely celebrated by the town. Chuck's victory, however, appears to be genuine unlike the one in the movie he references. Chuck, unless he is being sarcastic, has unwittingly chosen to compare himself to a movie character that is in the opposite of his own situation.
