The original tale works perfectly well in paper, but it isn't isn't precisely very cinematic, barely having a plot.
Of all the Tore Bahnson I have seen, this might be the weakest, not showing the same stylish creativity shown in the rest of his work.
Just compare this to his version of "Up in the Gallery", another adaptation of Kafka. Or with his hauntingly poetical adaptation of "The Secret Miracle". Or with his "dream" shorts. (Sadly not registered on imdb)
This, by contrast, has very little to offer.
Glad I didn't give up on the rest of his filmography after watching this, because Bahnson has much, much better works than this one.
