Bland. Boring. Unremarkable.
sdmeshotto27 October 2018
I'm really unimpressed, mainly due to the fact that this took 2 years. If this was a 3 month gig, sure I'd be impressed. But for a 2 year passion project...its not creative, or land-marking, or statement making and its only 12 minutes long. I thought the whole point of the fan-made star wars movement is to give us what Disney won't. This just feels like the blandness of the first EA battlefront.

The best fan-film ever made.

I enjoyed every second of this fan-film. The sound and visual effects were amazing! I loved the story how well written it was and the way it was filmed. the cinematography was fantastic, felt like i was watching an official Star Wars movie. Acting was very good. The stunts was so sick. I love that you guys had all the guns, the costumes and you guys even built the inside of a ship. SICK! I mean from just having 15,000$ and have created this masterpiece. This whole team need to be working with Lucasfilms and work with the Star Wars movies. I'm not kidding, i actually teared up in the end of the film. It was that good.

People crowd funded this?

You would think a bunch of college Star Wars fans would make a better film than what Kathleen Kennedy is putting out. Haha NOPE. Like all other college level films, this film is a boring, convoluted mess. The sound and production design was ok but everything else was pure rancor dung. I hope the people in charge of this film don't feel high and mighty for making a Star Wars fan film, because they really shouldn't, especially after making one this bad.

Amazing Fan Film!

This is an amazing 12 minutes! The heart-felt story, the beautiful cinematography, the wonderful score, the stunning locations, and the realism of the costumes/armor. Great attention to detail, top-notch special effects, and impressive stunts! Such hard work pans out. These guys are going places, and I can't wait to be there and watch!

An odyssey into mediocrity

Warning: Spoilers
"Odyssey: A Star Wars Story" is an American 12-minute live action short film from last year (2018) and as this was released in late October it is pretty much exactly a year old now, slightly over. And since then, it has scored approximately 1.5 million views, not too shabby for a fan film. Yes it is a fan film despite "a Star Wars Story" in the title, an addition that also resulted in Hollywood blockbusters lately. For this one, they had a budget of $15,000 and honestly what they made of that in terms of special effects, costumes etc. (basically everything technical) is admittedly really creative and convincing and I was a bit impressed by that. Sadly, it is just the shell really. The key is the story and this one is not really opening any doors. First of all, I struggled with this looking more like a military movie than a Star wars film at times, but maybe that is just me. Nonetheless, I wish they could have invested more money into a better writer and this could have turned out as a better film overall too. The director is Mark Alex Vogt, also the writer I assume, and he looks so young on his imdb profile photo that I am even more surprised this was not his first filmmaking effort. Anyway, for a fan movie I may have given 2 stars more, but by general standards, this is just a 4 out of 10 overall I would say. Still, given the man's age, the outcome is not too shabby. As for the cast: Of course there are no big name actors on here and the ones that we have here are okay overall, not too bad, not too good either. They really weren't as good as they needed to be to elevate the sub-par writing material here. The emotional father-son story also made almost zero impact on me sadly, although that's a subject I am generally fairly fond of when used in films. All in all, I say watch something else instead.

Bland war propaganda infomercial
PugsAreUglyButPretty31 December 2019
I gave it three stars for the fact that on a $15k budget, the sound, cinematography and visuals are quite well done. However almost from the start it felt like it was a movie made for new army recruits to "get" why they have signed up. The repetitive droning voice-over ruined this for me. The 12 minute run was skipping from one thing to the next without any real character development. Watch it as a Star Wars curio, otherwise give it a miss.
