Both the ÖFI+ scheme for local films and the Fisa+ scheme for international shoots are being significantly enhanced.
Austrian producers have welcomed the government’s plans to increase the overall budget for the Fisa+ and ÖFI+ film and TV incentive schemes to more than €130m in 2024, to support both local production and to attract international film and TV production shoots.
The ÖFI+ scheme, which is administered by the Austrian Film Institute (ÖFI) as an extension of its funding portfolio, supports national Austrian productions and Austrian majority or minority co-productions, is set to see its budget increase by €24.4m from the...

"What did he say that was weird?" Don't you want to find out. Who's up for a "neurotic thriller" from L.A.? This super awkward, uncomfortable short film called Followers has debuted to watch in full online after initially premiering at film festivals earlier this year. Written and directed by filmmaker Julia Bales, it's a focused look at the lives of a nice influencer couple living in Los Angeles. Wendy has a sneaking suspicion that her meeting with Emma, who subsequently invited herself and partner over for dinner, was no chance encounter. What do they really want with her? This has such a well-played sneaky edge that's critiquing more than it seems at first glance, which is why it's so damn good. Starring Joey Ally, Jim Cummings, Taylor Misiak, and Bill O'Neill. Right at 15 mins, this is a captivating watch right to the end. View below. // Continue Reading ›...

Firstly, I am not a ‘found footage’ genre liker as many think the audience is stupid. The V/H/S anthology series beginning in 2012 was it for me that seeing Followers (2021) was a different experience. Writer-Director Marcus Harben brings the story of a discredited social media influencer named Jonty (Harry Jarvis) who moves into a new house after starting university. When he and his housemates learn their new home is haunted, they use the events to restart Jonty’s fading fame with deadly consequences.
The housemates are all of the various types almost updates of the classic Slasher film kill fodder Jonty (Harry Jarvis), a “Justin Bieber” with a posh accent and tilted ball cap. A scheming pretty boy that the internet loves and that most guys would love to punch, in fact Pete (Daniel Cahill) is the working class, ill-tempered ‘Lager Lad’ who almost does it. Toss in Amber (Erin Austen...

One of the qualities that stands out most in Andrekza’s brand of indie pop and R&b is just how visual it is. The Venezuelan artist, who signed to Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak En Fuego in 2020, has released a string of vibrant videos, such as “Miedo,” which is full of neon-hued, purple-tinted scenes that could have been pulled from a Euphoria moodboard. On her new song “Oro Negro,” she ups the ante, deepening her aesthetic choices with emotive lyrics that nod at the economic and political difficulties in her home country.

Lou Ottens, the Dutch engineer who invented the cassette tape and helped develop the compact disc decades later, has died. He was 94. Amsterdam-based news outlet Nrc Handelsblad confirmed the news but didn’t provide details.
Working to alleviate the challenge of huge reel-to-reel decks and the portability of recordings, Ottens began working on the audiocassette when he was named head of new-product development for Philips in the early 1960s. He used a pocket-size block of wood as a guide for the cassette’s future size and shape.
His brainchild would go on to account for sales of an estimated 100 billion units worldwide.
The cassette was a dominant format for music sales from the late 1970s — when record companies complained about the scourge of “home taping” — until the rise of the CD in the mid-’80s. After accounting for just 4.6% of U.S. music sales in 1973, they outsold 8-track tapes for...
