The episode title bears reference to an iconic painting of a pipe by Belgian painter René Magritte. The painting has a text "Ceci n'est pas une pipe", French for "This is not a pipe", pointing out that an image is only an image, not the real object. Owen's dad has a similar painting hanging on his wall in this episode, with a drill instead of a pipe.
Second episode to feature Geto Boys' "Mind Playing Tricks On Me".
The talking dragonfly is voiced by Ariel Kavoussi, who had already played Bianca Forsythe and Female Ad Buddie earlier in the series.
Olivia, the waitress, says she has chronic hypothermia, to explain why her skin is always so warm (106 degrees). However, hypothermia means a cold body temperature, so she may have meant hyperthermia. (The Netflix subtitles confirm that she says hypothermia rather than hyperthermia, but it may be a subtitling error.) There are visible heatwaves emanating from her body.
The line of dialogue that gives this episode its name is actually spoken in The Lake of the Clouds (2018), the following episode.
