Different approach but a well executed one, overall strong episode
Holt34430 April 2019
Seeing Roy Harper back in the present time was a great sight, he was and is my favorite sidekick to Oliver Queen and Arsenal really kicked ass in this episode, showing off his skills in parkour and in fighting. Green Arrow's fight sequences were also great, showing off new moves. It's amazing that the fight choreographer keeps bringing new moves and fight techniques for us to watch and enjoy.

The writing in this episode was actually pretty good and fresh take on the writing of an episode of Arrow, unpredictable and interesting. Tara Miele directed the episode with precision and created a well made episode with something new and something old.

One of the best episodes in a while.

Warning: Spoilers
Finally it seems like Arrow is really gearing up for the final episodes of the season. This episode was fantastic in my opinion.

The episode follows almost like a murder mystery style, where all of team arrow is interrogated. This was clearly a bottle episode to save money for the last episodes, but a VERY well done one. I just loved the overall style it had. It was very well shot, and had some great action.

Roy is finally back in the present, which is great. I've really loved Roy, and when I heard he would return this season I was so excited. Unfortunately he's been barely used throughout this season, only really in the flash forwards, but he's finally back in the present, and in a very exciting way.

The episode managed to stay interesting throughout the entire episode. Changing from the perspectives of every character. I had a guessed it would be Roy, but the way the episode was set up made me change my mind, before it was revealed. It was really great to see the different perspectives of the characters and not knowing who did it. Usually these types of episodes are filler, but this episode had many reveals and and turns, and didn't need to waste an episode.

I'm not going to lie, Dinah was a bit annoying this episode at first. She kept complaining about the team, almost like she didn't trust them, but it was a relief to see she was in on it all along.

Once we finally get to see what plays out it goes all out with Roy losing it. I seriously loved how brutal it was, and I'm just glad to have Roy back. He later explains that he died by an arrow (possible villain revival?) "Ironic." and was revived by one of the Lazarus pits that Roy, Thea and Nyssa were looking for. I honestly saw this storyline coming, and i'm really glad it's actually happening. It's an interesting direction to take the character, and i'm very excited to see what it all means

Finally we get the ending of the episode where Emiko reveals that could've saved the Queen's gambit, and we see some great writing from Oliver and Emiko, and one of Emiko's better scenes (acting wise). Finally it ends off with a bang, destroying the building, and leaving Oliver almost like Tommy in Season 1.

I honestly really loved this episode. I was very engaged, and it just felt like an episode from Season 2 (in the best way). It gives me hope this season will end off well, and that hopefully season 8 will be great too.

Overall this was just one of the better episode technically. The cinematography was better than usually. There were some good stunts, and fight scenes. I think there was some good dialogue, Roy is finally back, and it was just an exciting episode. We haven't had an episode like this since the 150th episode, so I'm really glad Arrow is picking up again.

Best episode in a long, long time.
ToadofTruth30 April 2019
For a moment I was thinking, "yet another average episode of Arrow". But boy was I wrong. This was perhaps the best episode of the season. There were even a couple of twists along the way, things I genuinely didn't predict. I wasn't sure Arrow was still capable of making an episode of this quality.

P.S. There were no flashforward scenes to Mia, William etc. Maybe that also factors into why it was so good.

Won't go into much details. But this episode was great. Been a long time, since Prometheus, anyone manipulated Team Arrow like that. Fav moment: Bye brother!

Whodunnit?

Arrow always finds ways to surprise, especially this season. Now that all the players are gathered and the plots are converging, I thought it unlikely that the show would take a storytelling risk this late into the game, let alone the final 3-episode stretch. "Confessions" does right by a familiar formula for crime stories, while effectively pushing forth the Ninth Circle conflict.

Bringing Roy Harper (Colton Haynes) into the fold was a success, unlike last year. Fully suited up as Arsenal, Roy wasn't just able to fuel the plot with his presence, but harboured a dark secret that only came out once the tension was through the roof. The writing was probably the strongest of any episode this season, tightly closing in on the truth behind a brutal murder in the subways with well-told alibis all-around from Team Arrow. Stephen Amell in particular was in fine-form as he dealt with Roy's return and the escalating threat of his sister, Emiko (Sea Shimooka).

As the finale looms, Shimooka has finally found her flow as Emiko. The anger and drama was finally channelled to full-effect, highlighting why she hates Oliver and why she wants him discredited for all he has done.

I usually include a note for the directors, and I feel inclined to do so yet again. Tara Miele proved she could do a pretty decent James Bamford copy last year in "The Ties That Bind", season six's penultimate chapter which I actually quite enjoyed. It seemed as if she had eased into her own style this year (maybe a little too many lens flares, but the colour grading on the scenes helped to follow the story). This episode was packed with impressive, smooth fights. Roy Harper's acrobatic falls and flips merged perfectly with Oliver's brutal, pin-point accurate fight moves. The camera followed steadily and I appreciated the stylistic choices all-around.

"Confessions" is a tense episode, that, aside from delivering on its premise, further heats things up for the final battle ahead. Couple that with the return of Roy Harper and director Tare Miele's style and you have an Arrow episode that hit the bullseye.

What an ending!!!
xarisgaras30 April 2019
I didn't expect that from Arrow, I mean there wasn't any episode after the mid season finale to be worthy to the show as in the beginning. Huge step forward. That ending blew my mind away.

Very Clever Episode
jumper282 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Its very rare these days that Arrow uses clever story telling techniques like they did in this episode. And I can't remember the last time Arrow had me so intrigued in an episode. The whole episode we get distorted versions of a story from team Arrow as they cover up for Roy (as we find out at the end). But meanwhile all the audience is wondering what the hell actually happened. I just love the way this episode was told, as each character recalls events from their perspective. Everything Roy did was great, from his parkour to him simply being reunited with the team. Loved the plot twist at the end too. More if this please Arrow!

Nice

This episode was very Le Epic and the episode we really needed to kick off the tension for the last 3 remaining eps, as i was starting to get worried about how the seasons endgame would turn out, seems we now have some nice foundations and story lines set up for an interesting last 3 eps.

Interrogation
paultapner17 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
We start in the middle of the action. There's been a crime. And a familiar face is the prime suspect and about to be interviewed by the Police.

Then it's three days earlier, according to a caption.

But don't scream. Instead of being that lazy cliché of starting with a bit of action you'll get to see in the episode anyhow, this actually is quite clever In it's execution, as the telling of the tale in various interrogations reveals multiple jumps all over the place, and leaves you wondering what the truth is.

The answer when it finally comes did wrong foot me. And it's pretty good drama. In that it will make you think about the moral choices certain characters make, and what you might do in the same situation.

This does end on a decent cliffhanger, which ups the stakes for the last two episodes nicely.

Nice seeing Roy in the present again, although a bit disappointing that Thea's not in it. She did only get written out because they didn't seem to know what to do with her, so a bit of closure would have been good.

This has been a good season, even though it does feel as if the show has run it's life at times, but still a decent watch.

Confessions

This episode cracks me up. Every episode since day 1 innocent people get killed but this one they decide to notice and question the team when people die. All the other people didn't count ?

No No and no it started so greatly
pintaxandre27 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The build-up was so perfect and brilliantly done, but they have to resolve it so badly. The two options they chose were both dumb: Emiko is the character that would have the more motive to kill these guards and Roy just appeared in this episode in the present time-line. Those two are just the most uninteresting guilty possibilities. Suche a pity.

A Structural Change Can't Save This Season
ThomasDrufke30 April 2019
This shouldn't come as any sort of surprise, being that we're 20 episodes into what is undoubtedly the worst year of the show, but this episode did next to nothing for the movement of the plot. I get it, they changed up the structure of the episode and tried to throw curve balls at us a few times, but ultimately don't we end up in the same place we started? Emiko is the villain, and I guess 'big bad' and our heroes are not on the same side as the police. Did we need an entire episode stressing that to us once again? Why not actually showcase Emiko doing something akin to Slade in season 2? Maybe show the ramifications of her actions? Perhaps she actually hurts Oliver in some way emotionally or physically? Disappointingly this show has fallen into the trap of telling it's audience how bad and evil their villains are without actually showing us anything we haven't seen. If this was the middle of the season I wouldn't be complaining this much, but we have 2 episodes left! Even with the attempt at changing up structures, there's not much to cheer about this week.

Flash backs and forwards is what failed this show.
ThunderKing64 October 2019
The flashbacks in this episode are a drag and makes the episode and show feel overwhelming.

Dinah unless is just playing her part seems like a hypocrite. She is a vigilante too but is pointing the finger at Oliver when she is also a vigilante who was responsible for an explosion 2 episodes ago.

Black Siren was a murder accomplice and Dinah didn't interrogate her.

I love Arrow but hate these flash backs and forwards.

The worst so far.
cruise011 October 2019
1 our of 5 stars.

This episode is the worst. Terrible writing, boring direction that relies on flashbacks and trying to solve who murdered the police. With arrow and his team. It was a very forgettable episode.

Terrible episode, boring
I couldn't disagree more with those who liked this episode. I thought it was the worst in a long line of bad episodes this year.
