Interesting music video, okay song

Warning: Spoilers
What we have here is the music video for the 2017 song "Mad Hatter" by Melanie Martinez. It runs for under five minutes and as you can see from the title already, there is an Alice in Wonderland connection here. Well, sort of. This definitely plays in its own universe somehow, but the only thing it really has in common with AiW is how fantastic it is and with that I don't mean quality-wise, but genre-wise. A yung woman (Martinez, who is also writer and director) is seemingly bored and drinks a mysterious potion, which catapults her into a world of oddities where she meets new friends quickly, a quartet of big furry animal versions of the Teletubbies who may not be as peaceful as you think they are. However, as most fans of Martinez are probably under 20, there is no blood during the stabbing scene, which makes this obvious. Meanwhile, Martinez herself lands in a big bowl of ice cream and experiences all other kinds of odd moments here from beginning to end. I am not entirely sure what to say about the song. When I listened to it five minutes ago, I was not too big on it admittedly, but now I feel it is kinda stuck in my head, so I guess it is a success too. It is definitely not an achievement in terms of how challenging it is, but Martinez' raunchy voice works well with the oddity I suppose you could say, so the song fits nicely together with the lyrics and also with what you see in this one. It does not have its own wikipedia page I checked, so I guess it was not a big success commercially, but it does feel creative, the entire package in my opinion. So this is why I say go check it out, not just the record, but go for the music video too. It's quite creative in my opinion and I wonder why I have never come across Martinez before if she has been making music since 2014 already at least in terms of when she got famous maybe. Thumbs-up for her effort here. I see this had over 60 million views on Youtube not too shabby. And I think Martinez is also fairly attractive in her own (again unique) way. Go for it.

Addition 29/04/20: the song is still very vividly on my mind and I increase my rating from 6/10 to 8/10. Highly recommended.
