This Encyclopedia Britannica short film is one of a series produced in the late 1960s about life on a dairy farm in Wisconsin. Although the narrator, Dale Markham, sounds mechanical in his delivery, that lends it a certain charm, even though its cannily composed shots and editing lend it all an air of pretending.

The principal message here is that farm life is one of seasons, and spring, quite obviously, is the time for planting. And so we see the preparation for planting, buying fertilizer and seed corn, and so forth; garden planting, the 4H meeting, where projects are assigned. All of these set the rhythms of the farm year. And grandpa's home-made ice cream at Dale's birthday party helps.
