This article contains Peacemaker spoilers.
Auggie Smith’s menacing racism somehow gets taken to the next level pays off in Peacemaker episode 7, as Chris’s terrible dad re-dons his White Dragon costume and gets to work. But…the White Dragon of Peacemaker is fairly different from the White Dragon in the comics. And for that matter, so is Peacemaker’s father. What are we talking about? Let’s break it down.
Nazis. I Hate These Guys.
In the comics, Christopher Smith was born in Austria to an American mother, Elizabeth Lewis, and a respectable German expat businessman father, Wolfgang Schmidt. Except he wasn’t respectable at all. He was Nazi garbage, the former head of a Polish concentration camp who fled when Germany’s loss became clear. And when that information was about to become public, Schmidt took his own life rather than face punishment for his crimes. Of course,...

Lucifer roared back to near the top of the Nielsen U.S. streaming chart after a new season of the show dropped on Netflix, but Clickbait edged it to stay No. 1.
During the week of September 6 to 12, Clickbait collected 1.1 billion total viewing minutes, while Lucifer totaled 1.05 billion. One disparity is the number of episodes. Lucifer, which started out on Fox before having its run extended as a Netflix original, has 93 episodes available to stream. Clickbait, a new Netflix show, has just eight.
A batch of 10 new Lucifer episodes began streaming September 10, which boosted overall views of the show more than 500% over the prior week’s 165 million minutes. The show’s audience is evenly divided in terms of age groups, with roughly the same amount of viewing occurring in the 18-to-34, 35-to-49, and 50-to-64 brackets.

The Netflix dark comedy “Strangers,” inspired by the Alfred Hitchcock classic “Strangers On a Train,” has added a slew of new actors to its lineup: Austin Abrams, Alisha Boe (“13 Reasons Why”), Talia Ryder, Paris Berelc, Jonathan Daviss (“Outer Banks”), Maia Reficco and Ava Capri.
The new cast members join Camila Mendes, Maya Hawke, Rish Shah and Sophie Turner, who were previously announced for the film.
“Strangers” is directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (“Someone Great”) based on a screenplay she wrote with Celeste Ballard. The film’s premise is in the vein of “Strangers on a Train,” in which two strangers plot to murder someone the other person wants gone.

Heroes like Batman and Superman routinely go above and beyond to save random strangers on the street. But when it comes to a little reciprocity in the sack? Executive producers of HBO Max’s Harley Quinn say DC Comics would rather have its superhero characters dance with the devil in the pale moonlight than show them engaging in oral sex.
In a recent interview with our sister site Variety, co-creators/EPs Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker said that the iconic comic company nixed a Season 3 Harley Quinn scene that depicted one of its legacy characters bestowing some highly specific special attention upon another.

Last year, Sigrid was in LA working on the embryonic songs that would become the follow-up to 2019's UK top 5 album, Sucker Punch, the critically acclaimed debut that followed the pop sensation’s BBC Sound of 2018 win and success of festival anthem Strangers. But when the pandemic hit, Sigrid had to return to Norway. On the flight home, Sigrid realized she had the genesis of ‘Mirror’, the immaculate disco-ball shaped new single, out today on Island Records.
‘Mirror’ is the extraordinary return for an artist who rewrote the rulebook on the pop-archetype and arrived onto the world stage with unofficial feminist anthem ‘Don’t Kill My Vibe’.
‘Mirror’ was written for the festivals that have become Sigrid’s definitive stage, and the thousands of fans who will “feel the bass in their chest” says Sigrid, adding, “I walk into the studio and know I want to make a big chorus!

Exclusive: Lucy Freyer has joined the cast of Brit McAdams’ Paint, starring Owen Wilson, Michaela Watkins, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ciara Renée, Lusia Strus and Stephen Root.
The comedic feature centers on Carl Nargle (Wilson), who has hosted Vermont’s #1 painting show for nearly three decades. While Carl’s signature whisper has long kept viewers from Pittsfield to St. Albans breathlessly hanging on his every stroke, the station eventually hires a younger, better painter who steals everything (and everyone) Carl loves.
In the film, which is currently in production, Freyer plays the eager and impressionable Jenna, an employee at Carl’s studio who is also his latest girlfriend. Like the women before her, she’s captivated by Carl’s gentle charm, but is starting to realize that she’s doing things she doesn’t believe in just to gain his affection.

Only a few days short of January’s end, 2021 has seen the loss of its first Oscar winner. Here’s how the Associated Press broke the news:
Cloris Leachman, an Oscar-winner for her portrayal of a lonely housewife in “The Last Picture Show” and a comedic delight as the fearsome Frau Blücher in “Young Frankenstein” and self-absorbed neighbor Phyllis on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” has died. She was 94.
Leachman died in her sleep of natural causes at her home in Encinitas, California, publicist Monique Moss said Wednesday. Her daughter Dinah Englund was at her side, Moss said.
Remarkably those 94 years encompassed nine decades of work on the big and small(er) screen. A truly versatile actress, her knack for comedy wasn’t really showcased until nearly twenty years into her astounding career. As a tribute we offer a fond look back at the work of a true cinema “scene-stealer...

“Riverdale” star Camila Mendes and “Stranger Things” actress Maya Hawke will together star in a dark comedy for Netflix called “Strangers” that resembles the Alfred Hitchcock classic “Strangers on a Train.”
“Strangers” is directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (“Someone Great”) based on a screenplay she wrote with Celeste Ballard, and the film’s premise is in the vein of “Strangers on a Train” in which two strangers plot to murder someone the other person wants gone.
“Strangers” subverts that idea and stars two teenage girls, one a trendy It Girl and the other an alternative girl, who team up to go after each other’s bullies.
Robinson will also produce with Anthony Bregman and Peter Cron for Likely Story under their overall deal with Netflix.
Mendes currently stars in “Riverdale” as Veronica Lodge, and she was also recently seen in the Neon and Hulu comedy “Palm Springs.” Hawke broke out...

Welcome to September, ladies and gentlemen. With the summer coming to and end, the fall almost upon us, and the Covid-19 pandemic still very much impacting the industry, much is still up in the air. Such is life with the coronavirus holding up much of the film industry. As fitting this weird year, not much has changed since July when I looked at the best of the first half of the year. Mostly, this just means the best is (hopefully) still to come here. We shall see, but just keep in mind that the midpoint of 2020 has been somewhat of a holding pattern, for obvious reasons. Let’s get right down to it. Below you’ll find my top ten of the year so far, along with my awards for the first two thirds of 2020. Here you go folks, and enjoy: 10. Crshd 9. The Outpost 8. Buffaloed 7. Da 5 Bloods 6. The Invisible Man...

“She told us not to come.” Such is the refrain of Bryan Bertino’s “The Dark and the Wicked” or, at least, of his two main characters, siblings stuck in a house of horrors that they really, really shouldn’t have returned to. No, they shouldn’t have come, but Bertino’s striking opening act makes a fine argument for why they did, while creepily teasing why it’s going to end so very badly for them. Still,

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for the “This Is Us” Season 4 finale, Episode 18, “Strangers: Part Two.”]
When Season 4 started, “This Is Us” made a promise. By dedicating its first hour to three new characters — Marine-returned-home Cassidy Sharp (Jennifer Morrison), teen father Malik Hodges (Asante Blackk), and a mysterious blind musician named Jack (Blake Stadnik) — Dan Fogelman’s NBC drama committed to making those characters matter by the end of the year.

Most of their arcs were evident before credits rolled on Episode 1. Cassidy was in the veterans group Uncle Nicky (Griffin Dunne) attacked, which, of course, led her to Kevin (Justin Hartley); Malik fell for Deja (Lyric Ross), which obviously tied him to Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson); and Jack turned out to be Jack Damon,...

Ladies and gentlemen, the great Pearson Estrangement of 2020 — and beyond? — has officially begun.
This Is Us‘ Season 4 finale Thursday included a huge, no-holds-barred, no-insult-unsaid argument between Kevin and Randall that made it really clear why the two won’t be talking by the time their shared 40th birthday rolls around in September. It’s been a while since we’ve had an update on This Is Us‘ Nicky, but Kevin changes that when he calls his uncle before attending an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in tonight’s Season 4 finale (NBC, 9/8c). And, weirdly, Kevin’s nipple quickly comes up as a topic of conversation.
Though the men start out chatting about Baby Jack’s upcoming first birthday and what type of sneakers are acceptable for an adult male to wear, the conversation eventually turns to Kevin’s recent cologne ad (hence the aforementioned chest reference) and the real reason Kev is calling.

In March 1973, Merle Haggard and the Strangers released a new single called “The Emptiest Arms in the World,” a boozy, forlorn honky-tonk ballad from the soon-to-be-released I Love Dixie Blues LP. The country song’s lonely main character, however, might well have been positively giddy compared to the actual country’s beleaguered leader. President Richard Nixon was at an all-time high 67% approval rating at the time of his inauguration. But with the Watergate scandal dominating national news, Nixon’s numbers soon went into freefall — and never recovered.

Stranger Things season 4 is happening! Netflix renewed the series just three months after the premiere of the third season. This isn’t a surprise. Not only does Netflix obviously want to keep the Stranger Things franchise going, but so do The Duffer Brothers and all the other folks who actually make Stranger Things. Otherwise, why keep the hopes of Jim Hopper’s survival alive and reintroduce the Demogorgon into the world? The Duffers themselves have previously stated that they had a fourth season tentatively planned.
Here is everything we know about Stranger Things season 4.
Stranger Things Season 4 Cast
It’s no secret that Stranger Things‘ most potent weapon is its cast. It’s fair to assume that all surviving characters will be back in season 4, which means roles for: Winona Ryder, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Gaten Matarazzo, Joe Keery, Noah Schnapp, and Sadie Sink.

Much of Netflix's The Stranger is ridiculously immersive.
The television series -- based on Harlan Coben's book of the same name -- apparently differs in some major ways from the source material.
But not having read the book myself, the adaptation is a terrifically winding road of deception and heartbreak.
So much occurs in the series, it's ridiculous to try and keep it all straight.
But the skillfull tying together of all the twisty knots is an all-enveloping and charged experience.
The premise places a blackmailing stranger -- played by Hannah John-Kamen -- at the core of controversy, as she attempts to eradicate lies and expose secrets for money.
She has a pained passion for executing these exposures with her business partner, Ingrid Prisby, played by Lily Loveless.

Anthony Hayes and Daniel Krige have secured the screen rights to the heroic story of Max Sylvester, the student pilot who managed to safely land a Cessna in Perth after his instructor passed out mid-flight.
Hayes and Krige are writing and plan to co-direct the 90-minute feature, working title Flight School, with events unfolding in real time.
The duo, who first collaborated on Krige’s 2007 crime drama West, aim to raise $500,000 from crowd-funding site Indiegogo and then seek completion funding from Screen Australia.
