Not a companion piece to Unseen, The Unheard is a new Shudder Original that combine the talents of Jeffrey A. Brown, who previously directed The Beach House and writers Michael and Shawn Rasmussen whose credits include Crawl and The Ward. It’s the story of Chloe who caught meningitis and spent six months in a coma as a child. She awoke to find that she had lost her hearing.
More importantly, she had lost her mother as well. She disappeared without a trace during those months. She and her father moved to Maine and she’s tried to put it behind her and get on with her life.

‘The Unheard’ (2023) Ending, Explained: Who Killed Chloe’s Mother? Did The Spirit Save Chloe’s Life?
There isn’t very much movie infused into this carnival of tropes that, despite giving off the idea that it would at least be an entertaining watch, had me reaching for a pillow to scream into. Shudder’s latest supernatural thriller, “The Unheard,” directed by Jeffrey A. Brown is scary alright. That is, if you take note of the horror you feel that films like this are still inflicting on the unsuspecting audience, and that too by major production houses. But enough about my mountain-climbing ordeal of sitting through two hours’ worth of a dull-as-a-dishwasher narrative with a climax that even someone who has never seen a movie before (somehow) will be able to see coming a mile off. Let’s get on with what goes down in the eerie life of a disabled young adult.

Watching the cosmic, otherworldly dread unfold in Jeffrey A. Brown's The Beach House was one of my favorite viewing experiences of 2020, so I was thrilled to find out that Brown is back with his next feature-length film, The Unheard.
With the supernatural sci-fi horror film now streaming on Shudder, I caught up with Jeffrey in a new video interview to discuss working with the talented Lachlan Watson, his personal connection to the film's story of hearing loss, and how he brought the film's creepy VHS aesthetic to life on screen. As an added bonus for fans of The Beach House, Jeffrey also talks about what his pitch for The Beach House 2 would have looked like!
You can watch the video interview with Jeffrey below, and in case you missed it, read Cass Clarke's review of The Unheard!

The 23rd annual Boston Underground Film Festival took place at The Brattle Theatre in Cambridge, Ma from March 22 to March 26. The genre-blending lineup included premieres, festival favorites, anticipated titles, shorts, and more.
Here’s what I saw at this year’s event…
The Unheard
The festival’s opening night kicked off with the world premiere of The Unheard, which pairs the exciting New England talents of director Jeffrey A. Brown, following up his dynamic debut The Beach House, and writers Michael and Shawn Rasmussen, hot off the success of Alexandre Aja’s Crawl. All three were in attendance for a post-screening Q&a.
Hearing impaired since the age of 8 as a result of meningitis, 20-year-old Chloe Grayden undergoes an experimental gene editing procedure to restore her hearing, which coincides with a homecoming to prepare her family’s empty summer house for sale. She’s the first patient in the clinical trial to show positive results,...

The biggest new release for the week is Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which brings various monsters from the long-running property to the big screen beginning on Thursday night, and it’s joined by several brand new horror movies in the coming days.
Here’s all the new horror releasing March 28 – April 2, 2023!
For daily reminders about new horror releases, be sure to follow @HorrorCalendar.
Up first, BayView Entertainment and Vipco have released Skarecrow: A Curse Never Dies today, which looks to be an ultra-low-budget indie film centered on a killer scarecrow.
In the film, “When the vile James Brothers murder an innocent woman to take over her land, her dying breath places a curse on the family through a scarecrow. Years later, a descendent of the James family has taken his friends to the old cabin for the weekend. They soon find the curse and the scarecrow are still wanting blood.

Now in its third week of release here in the United States, Scream VI has found itself in the #4 spot on the domestic box office charts, scaring up $89.9 million to date (domestically).
Worldwide, Scream VI has slashed its way into $139.2 million, officially passing the worldwide total of last year’s Scream – which ended its run with a total of $137.7 million.
The number to beat in that department is still Wes Craven’s original Scream movie, which hit a franchise-high $173 million when all was said and done back in 1996.
Stay tuned… and you can probably expect a Scream 7 announcement soon…
Meagan wrote in her review of Scream VI, “This slasher sequel lets a ruthless Ghostface loose in the city, slicing up an intense, flawless entry that continues the streak of insightful introspection while escalating the thrills, kills, humor, and heart to a breathless degree.”

One week after scoring the franchise’s highest opening weekend to date, the Radio Silence-directed Scream VI has now passed $100 million at the worldwide box office.
As of this morning, Scream VI has amassed a worldwide total of $116 million – the domestic total at this time is $76 million – which makes it the fifth movie in the slasher franchise to hit that $100 million mark. The only film in the franchise that didn’t quite reach those heights was Wes Craven’s Scream 4 back in 2011, which ended its worldwide run with $97 million.
Scream VI is on track to pass Scream 2022’s worldwide total of $137 million, and if it can pass the original movie’s $173 million it’ll be the highest grossing Scream movie to date.

"I think something's wrong with the procedure. I'm hearing things..." Shudder has revealed a trailer for an indie horror film titled The Unheard, the latest creation from the director of The Beach House. It will be streaming on Shudder later this month. Lachlan Watson stars as Chloe, who undergoes an experimental procedure to restore her hearing. She begins to suffer from auditory hallucinations related to the mysterious disappearance of her mother. The director adds: "Our cast and crew have delivered a stunning piece of work and I cannot wait for audiences to take our trip into the strange realms between life & death and silence & noise!" From the writers of the Crawl film. The cast includes Michele Hicks, Nick Sandow, Brendan Meyer, Shunori Ramanathan, and Boyana Balta. This looks unsettling, especially with all the sounds. // Continue Reading ›...

Hot on the heels of a largely positive critical response (see our own Meagan Navarro’s glowing review here) and an opening weekend performance that has broken franchise records, Scream VI‘s cast and crew are no doubt riding a high right now. The “sequel to the requel” follows the surviving “Core Four” from 2022’s Scream—Sam (Melissa Barrera), Tara (Jenna Ortega), Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown), and Chad (Mason Gooding)–as they leave behind the suburban backdrop of Woodsboro and venture to New York City to start anew.
Yet again helmed by Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, Scream VI also welcomes back franchise staple Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), Scream 4 fan-favorite Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere), the iconic voice of Ghostface (Roger L. Jackson), and a host of new potential Ghostface victims, including veteran actor Dermot Mulroney (Copycat), Liana Liberato (The Beach House), Jack Champion (Avatar: The Way of Water...

As expected, the Radio Silence-directed Scream VI is another box office win for the franchise, the sixth installment surpassing the opening weekends of every other Scream movie.
At this time it’s being reported that Scream VI scared up $44.5 million in theaters here in the United States this weekend, compared to last year’s $30 million opening for Scream 5.
This gives Scream VI the highest opening weekend of any film in the entire Scream franchise, far surpassing previous record holder Scream 3 and its $34 million opening.
Here are the domestic opening numbers for each of the previous movies…
Scream (1996) – $6 million Scream 2 (1997) – $32 million Scream 3 (2000) – $34 million Scream 4 (2011) – $18 million Scream (2022) – $30 million
Last year’s Scream ended up making $81 million domestically and $140 million worldwide, so those are currently the numbers for Scream VI to beat when all is said and done.
Worldwide, Scream VI has currently slashed its way to $67 million.

Ghostface is back on the big screen with the release of Scream VI in theaters nationwide, and Thursday’s opening night numbers suggest it’s another massive win for the franchise.
In 3,125 theaters here in the United States, Scream IV scared up $5.7 million on Thursday night, with the film expanding to 3,675 theaters across the United States beginning today.
For the sake of comparison, last year’s Scream made $3.5 million in Thursday night previews, before ultimately ending up with an impressive $30 million opening weekend.
According to Variety, Scream VI is currently tracking to end the weekend with $35 to $40 million, but it’s entirely possible that the final number could far surpass $40 million.
These numbers would give Scream VI the franchise’s biggest opening weekend to date.

A female spy drama-thriller charged emotionally by an effective mother-daughter relationship, “Forget My Name” won one of the most enticing awards on offer: A development contract with Spanish public broadcaster Rtve. Set up at Avi Films, the series represents the latest screenplay from Argentine but Spain-based Jesica Arán and partner Juan Lombardi at Spain’s Avi Films.

We’ll soon be meeting the leader of The Farm. One Tree Hill alum Chad Michael Murray is joining the CW’s Riverdale in a recurring role.
Murray will play Edgar, the enigmatic leader of the cult-like Farm, who arrives in Riverdale to spread his teachings and heal the ravaged soul of this once wholesome town. Edgar is a charming, handsome guru, but is he hiding a more sinister agenda?
The new character indicates an expansion of the cult storyline that has been in the works. In the Season 3 opener, Betty (Lili Reinhart) seemed to have had enough of her mom Alice (Mädchen Amick) and sister Polly (Tiera Skovbye) obsessing over The Farm, the organization that helped Alice reconcile her husband Hal’s (Lochlyn Munro) murder of four people as the Black Hood. Alice tried, but failed, to get Betty to join The Farm.

Teen drama One Tree Hill ended its nine-season run in 2012, and there hasn't been a show quite like it since.
Many of the actors catapulted into stardom thanks to the series and are now killing it on both the big and small screen. Meanwhile, others have removed themselves from the spotlight completely.
However, nothing bonds a group of strangers quite like a TV show. Their bond has remained strong, and they continue to hang out and keep in touch with fans at conventions which have also kept the legacy of the series alive for new and old fans alike.
There are even talks of a possible revival in the near-future.
So, let's return to Tree Hill and see what your basketball-loving, small-town actors have been up to since the series wrapped.
1. Chad Michael Murray - Lucas Scott Much like his character Lucas Scott, actor Chad Michael Murray became a writer.
