The Angel of Mercy is a particularly good episode of Father Brown. Series Four, and so far Series Five has seen the show move in a slightly more serious direction, with stories a little darker, a little more deep, definitely more grown up.
The Angel of Mercy is quite dark in tone, dealing with subjects that aren't always comfortable to talk about, euthanasia, people's dignity, and the problems one associates with getting older.
The story is a damn good one, the performances are great. I must applaud the show for continuing to give us the best of British, we'd recently had Doreen Mantle, for this one we get the velvet voiced Mother of Sherlock, Wanda Ventham, and as always she steals the show. A magical actress, who I've loved in Dr Who, The Lotus Eaters, Only fools, the list goes on.
You'll never guess the outcome of this one, had us all fooled.
Loved it, 9/10
