The holiday is also being recognized by a growing number of media and entertainment companies who are shuttering their U.S. offices for the day.
Below is a listing of what networks are offering. Keep checking back as we continue to update it.

Is David Lynch just too damn weird for Emmy voters?
That’s a question that could be answered by Emmy nominations in the limited series and television movie categories, where Lynch’s return to “Twin Peaks” on Showtime is both a monumental achievement and one of the strangest things ever put on television.
Among the top contenders in the limited series category, the 18-episode “Twin Peaks” is longest piece of work by more than six hours — and it’s also so bizarre that it makes the last season of “Westworld” look like a model of concise storytelling. There’s a real question as to whether Lynch’s flights of fancy will be embraced or scorned by voters.
Among the other contenders, FX’s Ryan Murphy is always a major presence in these categories, with his big entry this year not the post-election edition of “American Horror Story” but the second...

Writer-director Jennifer Fox’s autobiographical film “The Tale” premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival to such strong reviews that it might have been an Oscar contender if it had been distributed theatrically, but when HBO picked it up it became an instant Emmy frontrunner. The paycaster is the winningest network in the Best TV Movie category with 21 victories to date out of an astounding 71 nominations.
Since 1991 the cable titan has had one or more films nominated every single year without fail. This year “The Tale” is one of four HBO productions up for Emmy consideration along with “Fahrenheit 451,” “Notes from the Field,” and “Paterno.” Will it be “The Tale” that gives the network its 22nd win?
The premium network has had strong contenders in the last two years that couldn’t close the deal. In 2016 HBO had two telefilms nominated: “All the Way” and “Confirmation.” The...

Last Year’s Winner: Nicole Kidman, “Big Little Lies”
Still Eligible: No.
Hot Streak: A nominee from HBO or FX has won this category nine times in the last 10 years — Laura Linney’s victory for “The Big C: Hereafter” in 2013 is the lone standout.
Fun Fact: Helen Mirren has the most trophies in this category. She’s won four times, including two for the “Prime Suspect” series.
Can Laura Dern become an Emmy winner two years in a row? After snagging her first trophy last year for “Big Little Lies,” Dern seems fated to snag another nomination (at least) for her hailed turn in HBO’s “The Tale.” The film earned rave reviews out of Sundance before the premium cable network picked it up, and the beloved Dern is front-and-center in the landmark cinematic memoir.

Adaptive Studios, an upstart studio focused on short-form content for digital platforms, has hired HBO veteran Steve Foster as head of original content.
He will oversee all Adaptive’s original TV, film, publishing and digital content. Foster had been responsible for supporting the quality of the HBO Films’ brand by managing film projects from development through production, post-production and marketing. Adaptive made the announcement Friday.

While at HBO, which he joined in 2011, Foster worked on “Behind the Candelabra,” “Bessie,” “Clear History,” “Confirmation,” “Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight,” “Notes From the Field” and “Paterno.

Anna Deavere Smith, whose solo play Notes From the Field aired on HBO in February, will debut a new production during summer 2019 at the New York Theatre Workshop, the Nytw announced today.
Details about the as-yet-untitled play were not disclosed, though The New York Times has reported Smith’s upcoming project to be on “the subject of race and the state of civic discourse in America.” The project was described by Off Broadway’s Nytw as “a vital solo show.”
Actress/playwright Smith is the MacArthur and Polk awards winner, and Pulitzer Prize nominee whose solo works include Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992 and Fires In The Mirror: Crown Heights. Notes From the Field, pictured above, was drawn from more than 250 interviews on the subject of America’s “school-to-prison pipeline,” and featured Smith’s portrayals of 18 real-life characters.
She currently recurs on Black-ish as Alicia, mother of Tracee Ellis Ross’ Rainbow Johnson.
