A generally fun and likable short-form monster-movie throwback
kannibalcorpsegrinder30 November 2023
Following his sister's death, a man finds himself forced to team up with a pair of investigating detectives to find the culprit and soon realizes it's a revenge rampage by a scientist she used to work for killing off an old team she was a part of with the help of several mutant creatures.

Overall, this is a pretty fun quickie monster movie throwback. The initial idea of the film basing the film on the rampage where the creations of the mad scientist heading out to seek revenge on those that wronged her comes off really nicely here, providing this to set about going through the motions of letting the creatures wreak havoc on those around them and be unsure of what's going on so the investigation into everything makes some sense. These are accomplished with admirably cheesy and silly attacks where the creatures' obviously puppet-based creations come along and launch equally goofy and silly confrontations where they pop up unexpectedly and ambush their victims leaving a trail of slime and goo behind to really hammer home the cheesy atmosphere incredibly well. Outside of this, though, there are some drawbacks here. The main issue is the amount of padding found in a movie this short. The series of scenes involving the world-weary cops complaining about their lives or the people they run into instead of the case they're handling feels quite off, while the scenes looking into the backstory of the doctor's experiments is conducted over a dragged-out conversation that doesn't really need to be as long as it is spread out over a somewhat plodding sequence. As well, you've also got to deal with the immensely silly and cheesy effects used throughout here with the creatures being obvious hand-puppets manipulated by off-screen technicians that fall into the charm being presented but never look close to being realistic or convincing that all pretty much the issues with this one.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence and Graphic Language.

Sci Fi slimy horror with monsters!

Director Sebastien Godin brings us the imaginative monster movie Slimoids. How fun is this movie. Brings back the good ole days of mad scientists bent on destroying the world with there creatures. Remember Gremlins, Ghoulies, Critters how fun they were. This time its three lil monsters with big appetites and ready to kill.

A mad scientist (Mairead Traxler) who is voiced by scream queen legend Brinke Stevens, has the lil monsters take care of her deadly dreads of destroying mankind. A string of murders by her lil creatures are causing concern. Hot on her trail is 2 detectives (Chris Mathias and Steve Walls) that are trying to stop the carnage before its to late. These guys are fun to watch but I wouldn't really want them on my case. Bottles and shot glasses are everywhere and alcohol helps them get through the day.

Meanwhile Dan Stewart (Ethan Cliford) trying to find out what happened to his sister (Stevie Lyons). Dan sister was brutally Murdered by these mini assassins. So with these 2 subplots going on and the whose who in indy film making provided by very fun cameos you have yourself a very enjoyable sci fi monster movie. Filled with slime, creatures and splatter.

Seb is a genius and put together a movie that plays homage to the 80's. His joyful approach to this movie helps from a fun script and great performers. Everyone was a joy to watch and there facial expression and delivery of there lines was a treat. The imaginative choice of style of filming angles and lighting brought so much more to the project. I couldn't imagine anyone else with the budget you had to pull this off so successfully. I had so much fun watching I played again while reviewing to hear the commentary. It was just that good. It has a running time that fits it well and never a dull moment. Sound, picture and story are up on par with a Hollywood production that would cost so much more and wouldn't have had the pleasure as I did watching this.

Seb has a bright future in Film making and goes above and beyond to get a movie done. I can only anticipate what is next with joy. What I respect he does what he wants and pulls it off with such ease.
