Working as a break between blockbusters, this weekend featured no huge tent pole releases. That is good news and bad news for the movies that were released last weekend as it looks like Pixar’s Elemental and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse are battling it out for first place this weekend with an expected $18 million each. For Elemental that is welcome news after last weeks opening which saw the film become the second lowest opening ever for a Pixar movie If Elemental can hold on at its current pace, that will represent a sub 40% drop off which is really good in today’s opening weekend dominated market.
The bad news comes by way of The Flash as that film looks to take a substantial tumble in its second weekend which could lose as much as 75% of its audience with a $14 million weekend. I saw in the comments on our predictions post...

Although “Pose” co-creator Steven Canals says he gets the most actual writing done sitting at the dining room table in his Los Feliz home, he still keeps a meticulously maintained home office space, one that he shares with his partner. Their desks face each other and are surrounded by creativity-stirring pieces that include a full wall of books, a big picture window and various pieces of word art. The desks were part of a four-piece set that Canals procured while in grad school at UCLA, but when he moved out of that space, he took two of the four with him. That’s where he wrote the first-ever draft of “Pose.”

Hollywood’s landscape has changed dramatically since Viacom and CBS were last married in 2005. Now that the two media giants seek a Wall Street reunion, there are endless possibilities for the future of its shared content pie.
Huge action franchises like “Mission: Impossible” and “Transformers” from Paramount Pictures could explore new origin stories or exploit quirky side-characters for streaming series on the CBS over-the-top platform All Access. All Access is also currently building out the “Star Trek” TV universe, with three shows under the franchise’s umbrella set to be on the streaming service in 2020. Signs of synergy are already cropping up as well. CBS, which owns the TV licensing rights to “Star Trek,” gave its blessing for a cartoon take on the sci-fi classic at Nickelodeon this year.

Dora the Explorer was seven years old when audiences met her on television, a sing-songy polymath who traveled the map seeking answers and solving puzzles, accompanied by a big-mouthed backpack and equally loquacious monkey, Boots. Nearly 20 years have passed since the adventure show first aired (enough to cultivate a massive global awareness), but only 10 in Dora’s world, which means her live-action debut, director James Bobin’s “Dora and the Lost City of Gold,” gives audiences of all ages the chance to see the character — whose unquenchable thirst for education knew no bounds — face the ultimate test: adjusting to an American high school.
If that sounds like a pretext for a snappy, self-parodying TV-to-film adaptation — something in the vein of “21 Jump Street” or “The Dukes of Hazzard,” perhaps — think again. Yes, the movie is postmodern enough to acknowledge that there’s something odd about Dora’s penchant for breaking...

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday.
This past weekend saw the release of “Shazam!,” a movie that proved to be a pleasant surprise for some critics who hadn’t been expecting much from D.C.’s latest superhero extravaganza.
This week’s question: What film has most defied your expectations, either for better or for worse?
Richard Brody (@tnyfrontrow), The New Yorker
The severity of Robert Bresson without the originality, a similar obsession with evil but veering toward the showmanship of grotesquerie: Bruno Dumont had long struck me as a director of great ambition with an artistic vanity to match, and when the New York Film Festival announced a nearly four-hour film of his, I went to see it with a sense of obligation falling short of the curiosity I’d like to bring to all movies but,...

We finally get a a great Transformers movie with Bumblebee thanks to director Travis Knight, and now the producers of the Transformers franchise want to digress and, in a way, go back to what Michael Bay was doing.
Over the weekend it was confirmed that Paramount Pictures was developing a sequel to The Last Knight for some reason, and that the Bumblebee sequel would include Optimus Prime in the story.
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has now revealed some of their plans for the Bumblebee sequel. He says that they are looking to add “a little more Bayhem”, which are words that I hoped to never hear again regarding a Transformers movie. While talking to Collider, he said:
"I know the next Transformer our attempt anyway, is to sort of do a fusion of Bumblebee and the Bay movies. A little more Bayhem. And a little bit more of the character...

When I first saw the trailer for Bumblebee last June, I liked a lot of what I saw. The fact that the hero is a Volkswagen Beetle instead of a Camaro. The more faithful robot designs. I also liked the idea of the focus on a single character, since it suggested a stripped-down type of story, which after the cacophony of twisted metal that was the Michael Bay film series, was a welcome prospect. I had wanted to see this film earlier, but with all the holiday goings-on and other films to watch, it kinda got lost in the shuffle until now.
It was pretty good. Aside from the kid next to me that wouldn’t shut up because his typically discourteous parent wouldn’t do the right thing by instructing his child that you’re not supposed to talk during a movie (which are often found in theaters I...

Bumblebee has found its voice. Maze Runner and Teen Wolf star Dylan O’Brien is providing the vocals for the title Autobot in Paramount’s first Transformers standalone film, which hits theaters December 21. The Travis Knight-directed origin story will mark the first feature in the franchise to showcase Bumblebee’s real voice. In the previous installments, yellow-and-black Transformer is forced to speak via its car radio.
Set in the 1980s, the prequel stars Hailee Steinfeld as Charlie who, on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers and revives Bumblebee, who is refuged in a junkyard. John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., John Ortiz, Jason Drucker, Pamela Adlon, and Stephen Schneider co-star.
The screenplay is by Christina Hodson and Kelly Fremon Craig. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Tom DeSanto & Don Murphy, and Michael Bay are producers. Exec producing are Steven Spielberg, Brian Goldner, Mark Vahradian and Chris Brigham.

We’ve got a fun new featurette from the movie Bumblebee, featuring the main character, Charlie Watson (Hailee Steinfeld), getting to know the title Transformer character better, and understanding how he is learning to talk. We also hear from the actor how she feels about the film and getting to be a part of the Transformers story. Here’s the video:
Director Travis Knight has taken a cool approach to this story, as he expressed that Bumblebee is the Transformer with the deepest human connection, so he is allowing us to get to know him better throughout this movie. Here’s the full quote from Knight via comicbook.com

Transitioning to live as a woman after being raised male is never easy, but for Janae Marie Kroczaleski it has been more complicated than it is for most. Janae was world famous when she was publicly out in 2015, and she was famous for being a highly successful bodybuilder. A couple of days before the première, she took the time to tell me how the film came about.
“It’s an interesting story,” she says. “Actually how it came to be was Michael, the director, was friends with the guy who actually ended up being the cinematographer for the film.

John Cena is certainly loving the Hollywood life… Wrestler turned actor Cena is lining up his next role at Paramount Players and has entered into final negotiations for a family comedy, ‘Playing with Fire’.

"This is how we stop them. You've got me... and I'm not going anywhere." Paramount has debuted the full-length, official trailer for Travis Knight's Bumblebee, the new spin-off movie from the Transformers series that's set in the 1980s. The first teaser is fantastic, but this looks even better. Even though they do introduce two other Transformer robots who will be the bad guys. The film is about the friendship between a young woman named Charlie and Bumblebee, on the run and living inside a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Hailee Steinfeld stars as Charlie, along with John Cena, Martin Short, Pamela Adlon, Megyn Price, Kenneth Choi, and John Ortiz. This is the first live-action feature from Laika's Travis Knight, and there's no Michael Bay around, and it looks damn good. Like really, really shockingly good. I'm so into this. Paramount Pictures took “Transformers” fans back to the ’80s with new footage for the upcoming prequel “Bumblebee,” which answered at least one question about the movie’s villains.
During Paramount’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, “Bumblebee” director Travis Knight called the “Transformers” prequel an “origin story” that will include scenes on the Transformers’ home planet of Cybertron. He also told fans the jet fighter Transformer featured in the first “Bumblebee” trailer is the Decepticon Blitzwing, not the beloved “Transformers” villain Starscream, as some had guessed.
The prequel dials back 27 years before the first of the modern “Transformers” films and focuses on Bumblebee, the yellow Autobot who’s a primary figure throughout the series. Bumblebee befriends a teenage girl named Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld) in the movie, and the pair go on the run after a government enforcer, Agent Burns (John Cena), tries to capture Bee.

A new trailer for Bumblebee has hit the web today and promises a heartfelt origin story for the fan-favorite Transformer. The spinoff prequel’s set before the events of the original movies and will examine the titular character’s time after he first landed on Earth, along with how he met his first human friend and what made him the heroic Autobot that we’ve all loved since way back in 2007.
As you can see above, this new footage features a younger Bumblebee learning about Earth with the film’s star, Hailee Steinfeld. That’s intercut with heartwarming shots of Bee figuring out how to talk via radio, a menacing John Cena (who’s playing the antagonist), explosions and a yet to be named Decepticon that totally looks like Starscream.

He may not look it, but John Cena is a big softie at heart (just please don’t tell me we said so). It’s this sensitive side he explores in Kay Cannon’s excellent comedy Blockers – and a sensitive side we managed to draw out of him during our interview with the WWE superstar.
Cena tells us how he cries when watching movies, and specifically that it happens on planes. He also speaks about his old friends from school and whether they kept in touch, and what an excellent job Cannon has done on this production, and how helpful it was that she approached the material from a writer’s perspective.
He also talks about his work in the comedy genre, and what we can expect from forthcoming Transformer spin-off Bumblebee. We also ask whether he can sing like The Rock can sing, and on the theme of wrestling rivalries,...
