Exasperating and thought-provoking
Pegasus-102 January 2020
You have to really think about what's happening as you watch, but even then it's hard to follow. (The screen formatting helps you know which period you're in.) It's an interesting premise (and I kept wondering why Vincent doesn't look up lottery numbers and then go back and play them) -- but this series leaves so many things unanswered that it cries for a follow-up. (Why doesn't Vincent run into himself in the past?) Some gratuitous nudity (like the middle aged man in Iceland who just walks through his house in the nude?) and way too much smoking (OK, it's France), and some dumb decisions by the characters kept the level of frustration high.

good

Quite nice story and plot. However, there are some unnecessary scene that just doesn't correlate the before and after that scene.

Good watch if...

It's a good watch if you haven't watched the Catalina's romance sci-fi *IF I HADN'T MET YOU* which was way better and a masterpiece also available on Netflix.

LACKED ENERGY.

Although a lot of the characters lacked energy or passion, the four-part of 'Twice Upon a Time' offers a slow burn intrigue that kept (at least) me absorbed. Good acting.

Good story, but the ending...

The story is really good, involving the time travel concept, but the conclusion was frustrating. Will be there a continuation? If not, why split the story into 4 parts that could be showed in just one complete movie of 2 hours?

What tha hell?

Warning: Spoilers
This is the sort of series that in some ways is fine, and in some ways not.

I suppose the biggest problem is the ending to the series, which is completely inexplicable unless you assume that quite a few more episodes were planned, but for some reason the show was canceled right in the middle.

So where are we left?

Basically, we're left wondering, what tha hell?

Having spent my time on this series, I would prefer to have watched something else. And that would be my recommendation to you.

Unusual

Aesthetic enjoyment, great acting, cool storytelling. Don't understand such a low rating. People are used to being stereotyped :(

I recommend this one to you!

Imagine that! A delivery man leaves you a package that is not for you, but you open it and discover that it is a wooden box with which you can go back in time to the moments you lived with the one you loved so much... Do you return the packet? Think twice that it's basically not yours. Or do you use the inexplicable portal to go back someone you loved to?

I liked the approach and it seems that it was put on hold for a second season (without Gaspard Ulliel, obviously). Not spectacular, but it questions things about love, time, and second chances...

Captivating

These series remind me Argentinian movie "Don't Die Without Telling Me Where You're Going (1995) "No te mueras sin decirme adónde vas (original title)" (5 nominations, 5 wins). Il était une seconde fois cas captivated my attention from the first minute. Great acting. Great actors.

No energy
sparklefish25 November 2023
I watched the first two episodes and gave up. It was so boring and slow that I fell asleep after watching the second episode. No one in the movie has any energy. Everyone talks like they're on sedatives.

The main guy has a beautiful face. That was the best part.

The main woman is super annoying. All she does is whisper and look like she's about to cry. Watching her pout and sulk irritated me.

Additionally, a cute pet bunny dies and I was sad about that part.

The little kid is cute and a good actor.

I was able to understand some of the French. I watched it with English subtitles.

I liked the concept of the mystery box.

Would have been better without time travel!
nooshie-331429 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm a sucker for European drama and binge watched this little four part French sci-fi romantic drama in one evening. So much is good - the attractive and complex lead couple - Vincent and Louise, the interesting locations (Waltham Forest, England and Bordeaux, France) and the acting in general, was pretty good. What fails is the silly time travel element which just confuses and messes with the story. This would have played out better and been more convincing as a straightforward doomed romance. The dynamics of the central love story were interesting enough without bringing in fantasy. Vincent is a thirty something single dad who works in a tropical fish shop. He meets complex rich girl Louise in a bar and the odd couple somehow try to negotiate their way through a far from easy relationship. Can Vincent go back in time and change things? I ended up thinking that Vincent was dreaming the whole thing as it was too ridiculous and there were plot holes a plenty. Far too many of the supporting characters were not fleshed out enough to be interesting and seemed to just be there to move the story along. The non- linear storytelling was interesting but ended up being frustrating and the "cliff hanger" ending a major disappointment and a total cop out! The seven stars are for the actors who really did a good job with flimsy material and the look of the movie, which does try to be different.

Warning: Spoilers
Too bad. The young man steals, uses drugs, cheats, and goes on with his intentions. Total loss of time. Run away, as the devil runs away from the cross

10 for unique aesthetic and feeling
swfad5 June 2022
I'm aware of the bad reviews, but regardless this show distinguishes itself by its aesthetically-pleasing cinematography, colour grading, and thought-provoking story. It keeps a dreamy and emotional sentiment throughout and cannot be compared to any other show, which for me deserves a 10.
