Taking a Major Risk.. Will it Pay Off?
Splarke2230 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Boom Nick Clark is dead. One of the three Clark's, the person we started out with in 1x01, and the one who many considered to be the heart of the show. Absolutely devastating seeing Nick die the way he did and in only the 3rd episode of the season. I'm not pissed that he died however, as the actor Frank Dillane ask to persue other projects back in S3 & this is the showrunners respecting his request. Sucks that we had to say goodbye to Nick, but I assume we'll see him here and there in the "past" timeline for the next few episodes until it merges with the "present" timeline.

A Surprising Soul Crusher
aidenbreccia30 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I made an IMDB account to write this review. As of Today 'Fear' has left it's mark and upgraded the 'Walking Dead' universe forever. Frank Dillane portrayed the role of Nicholas Clarke as perfectly as he always did throughout Fear. The Chaos that surrounds, the fear that invades and hence the death that concurs - random but inevitablely every name in the history of the show will become something that once was. And as heart wrenching as it was - today it was Nick's turn.

Drug addict turned family boy turned chivalrous lover, turned to dust... an incomplete yet perfect arc of a boy being forced into a man - into a survivor. Thank you Fear the Walking Dead for creating a character who meant something, for making me feel emotions 'The Walking Dead' hasn't made me feel since season 5.

PS. I only didn't give it a 10 because of the Luciana scenes she really needs to get back into character.

Shocking but brilliant
callcooldude30 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Yet another great episode. Nick's death was executed brilliantly and the acting from Frank Dillane (who plays Nick) and Alycia was phenomenal. I love the mystery in this season so far, something we haven't seen too much of in the Walking Dead universe. I do worry though that ratings will fall after his death, as I've read a lot of comments saying they're done with the show. But for me, Nick's death has made me even more excited for the rest of the season.

Another good episode!
monraelised30 April 2018
There is another review saying that this episode is totally garbage. I don't understand those people, their intentions to vote 1/10. I know we all like different stuff but come one, they act like they could make episodes that would be rated 10/10. I'd like to see what episodes they would produce. Now speaking about the third episode. It is great! I'm not bored watching it, there are some moments which are a bit stupid or unnecessary but it's still great. It's amazing to see how this show had improved, it never had such good ratings. I'm excited to see what it has in store for the next episodes unlike we all pretty much now what happens or what to expect from TWD. So it is satisfying to feel this way of not knowing where it can take you. There is some action lacking but of course it's not expected throughout these few episodes up until mid-season finale. In conclusion, I can say that it's worth to continue watching this show, it hasn't left me down from the first episode of the fourth season. Keep it up FTWD Team!

Good Episode!
Nick6315530 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILERS!

Side Note* This episode kind of reminded me of the earlier Walking Dead episodes where they put a lot of development into an episode for a specific character and then kill them off at the very end!

The episode was good IMO, I really liked the chemistry between Nick and Morgan but we'll never see that again! Acting was really good and the show just feels really different and that's a good thing! Nick's story arch was very depressing. It was very well played out but his death coming from someone he cared about was really sad. He was a great character and the show did a good job of illustrating his complex character but he never reached his self-actualization that might have happened this season if he didn't die especially because he could've had Morgan as a mentor. Nevertheless, good and sad episode!

Season continues to shine!
KinZerep30 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
First 3 episodes into this season and we are off to a great start. No doubt these first 3 episodes have been better quality than the past 2 seasons of The Walking Dead. The episode is a Nick-centric episode with a huge and unpredictable ending. I know there have been many literal devices through the show but the ones found in this episode seem more meaningful at least to me. Seems like there may have been some foreshadowing for Madison but perhaps I'm wrong. Overall, the art style is impressive, the cinematography, and the score are all very great. 9.5/10!!!

Arguably best episode of the series
hnt_dnl4 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Speaking as someone who despises the direction this series has taken after the great Season 3, if I'm being truthful, I think that this episode "Good Out Here" may very well be the best of the entire series. Part of it could be that Season 4 is so bad overall, that it's easy to pick the standout episodes, but more importantly, this episode is an example of how you tell a tight, focused, powerful story that ties together past and present scenes.

Focusing on Nick, never one of my favorite characters, this episode shines a different light on the once happy-go-lucky yet troubled man-child that struggled with drug addiction early in the series and always seemed to need something as a new addiction. In this episode, for the first time, Nick seems angry and jaded. Frank Dillane brings it start to finish carrying the episode through Nick's conflicting emotions.

In this one, Nick's crew which includes his sister Alicia, buddy Strand, and girlfriend Luciana face off against Season 4 newbies the wandering Morgan (from Walking Dead), photojournalist Althea, and cowboy Dorie, all who were introduced in 4x01. While I don't like the direction that this show has now taken, this particular episode is a keeper and did a great job mixing the 2 casts and telling a compelling story.

Nick and Company are seeking revenge on the Vultures for some unknown reason, so a determined Nick goes after their 2nd-in-command Ennis (well played by Evan Gamble), whose beef with Nick centers around the kid Charlie (convincing performance by child phenom Alexa Nisenson) that Nick feels is being manipulated by Ennis and his older brother Mel, and Nick wants the girl to become a part of his group with Madison.

This is probably one of the few episodes in all of Season 4 that didn't have any weak spots for me, the atmosphere, acting, writing, directing all worked and it delivered a powerful message in the end. Self-contained, "Good Out Here" is arguably best of the series. Regardless of what fans think of Season 4, this episode should not be overlooked for the masterpiece of storytelling that it is.

I didn't expect that

Warning: Spoilers
Well, im feeling the real apocalipse in this start of season, really im enjoing this episodes.

The death of Nick was so good, the revenge, the escenes of the past was quite good too.

Morgan's demonstration to Nick that sometimes it's not good to act out of anger.

I hated nick many times, he had a lot of bad decisions, but his death hurt me a bit.

Good episode, but highlights the FEAR problem!
Cannonbult06629 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Nick clarke meets his end only 3 episodes into the fourth season. I understand and respect the actor's wish to leave the show. But sorta like Troy from the last season, they killed him unceremoniously, this time it seems like it was more for shock value and it was because the writers could since the actor wanted to leave.

This is the problem with Fear! I noticed with Travis and saw everyone saying the same thing when he met his end in the beginning of season 3, they killed off characters just as they start to get interesting! Nick clarke was clearly going through his arc this season, shown especially in the last episode with his PTSD and his urge to protect Charlie. I never really liked Nick in the first and second season but he grew on me with season 3 (Minus the last 3 episodes because they were basically reseting his character by him getting high.) But with these openning episodes, I really liked what they were doing with his character and I was excited to see where he'd go, what he'd do and how it'd be resolved. But yet again, he meets his fate at the end of the episode by being shot by Charlie fpr shock value, Just as his character started to get interesting again. He will now forever just be wasted potential, Such a shame.

Yikes
grizzly22830 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The same problem I'm having with TWD is happening with FTWD now.

After shaky writing in both series, the episodes have gotten much better. HOWEVER, and big spoilers ahead, I do not agree with FTWD killing Nick nor TWD killing off Carl. So I'm torn. On one hand the writing and episodes have gotten tighter and better, but I care about the remaining characters even less. I have less desire to tune in each Sunday. And with Nick gone (as well as Travis, Troy, and presumably Ruben Blades), there's no one left I really care to watch. And some new characters have promise but I invested 3+ years into the other characters to have them disappear or be killed off suddenly.

I know Travis had Avatar to film and Nick asked to be written out of the show last season, but at least give them epic worthy deaths. Having Nick die at the dam would have been more meaningful. Having Travis fight off soldiers or a herd of walkers while the family escaped in the first episode of last season would have been better than being randomly shot.

So I have the same problem with both franchises. The characters I like are killed off in anticlimactic ways, and the ones I care about get the better written storylines.

Good Out Here - Review
amgann4 May 2018

The writing was great the acting was great nick didn't trust Morgan yet but he watch the videotape about Morgan and I like when they add. Blah!

Warning: Spoilers
Well that was dumb. You have this big buildup to Nick losing himself, and thinking he was going to be something special.... And then he's shot and killed. Not sure there is much payoff for this but you had 3 seasons to build him up and then just killed him off pointlessly. Terrible turn of events.

two seasons
paultapner12 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Picking up from where we left off last time, the two groups get to know each other. But can they trust each other? Negotiations begin with such gestures. Circumstances force them into it.

Meantime Nick has to work through his own issues. And flashbacks fill us in on those.

Wow. This is an amazing episode. A great one for Morgan who gets a lot to do. There are some good set pieces. And the cinematography is stunning, using different tones for the flashbacks to the current time to set them apart, and show the seasons when they are taking place. These have some amazing imagery at times.

There is a moral theme to this one as Nick's anger contrasts with Morgan's zen like state. The ending is stunning.. Unexpected. And hammers it home in a manner that means you won't forget it in a hurry. A brilliant episode.

Game changer
lenny-229591 May 2018
I've always been a fan of fear the walking dead it's runs at a much slower pace than walking dead but has substance. The decline of walking dead has had me worried but this has now taking over as my number one zombie programme.

Good episode. I never give spoilers in my reviews I rarely even mention the content as it gives to much away. However when I write a review it's coz I feel compelled to after watching it. A great episode.

A rare instance of excellent writing on this show
swalker80810 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Props to the writers for finishing off Nick. It was time, as he was becoming deranged, not to mention he and his mom have been really annoying (making every situation worse) for multiple seasons now. Nick's death, and the realization of who the perpetrator was, serve as a rare piece of great writing in this show. I hope that continues, because seasons 1-3 had dreadful writing that was full of plot holes and irrational decisions by characters.

However the writing here was so good, that as the audience, I didn't even feel that bad that Nick had passed. Because at this point, Nick and the whole group have become villains: tricking, kidnapping, and being morally inept towards the 3 new characters. Nick was the worst of them all, so I wasn't sure whether to be sad or not at his death. Again, this dilemma showcases great writing.p.

This episode was a tragic one, the death of Nick Clark shocked the hole group. Charlie shot Nick right in his heart, he had anyway not survived this. But where is Madison? Many questions.

Another garbage episode in a garbage series. Just look at the flowers, Nick. The entire series needs to look at the flowers while someone provides a merciful end.

Let's reboot
Rob-O-Cop30 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The last 2 seasons of this show were a mess. Nick wasn't the problem but they're cleaning house and going for some freshness. Will they mess it up and run it down the same old dead end they've done previously? probably, but for now, someone somewhere has made some strong leadership decisions and the show isn't pants, so far. We're still here, just. keep it up, take it some where solid and interesting and the series isn't the washout it was looking to be

Disjointed but Decent
panagiotis199330 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I really hate the new intro. So do they want to go to find the enemy group? Did I understand correctly? Sounds like a bad idea. This woman reporter still cares about interviewing people. Such nonsense. Where is Madison though? I wish they would focus on what happens now instead of all these flashbacks at the stadium. Or they could use an entire episode to just focus on what happened back at the stadium. No more Nick, that's it? He's gone? That sucks! No no no. I would never expect that the little girl would shoot Nick. Nobody mentions Madison in this episode which is weird. The episode felt very disjointed but still decent. My rating is 7/10.

Major curve ball
amesmonde1 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
An alliance of sorts is formed so that the group can tow their armoured vehicle from a horde of the dead drawn to the sound of its horn.

Despite a post murky filtering tinkering, episode 3 of season 4's Fear the Walking Dead gains momentum, this is another strong episode from the underdog. The previous 3 series has debatably worked best when it's not trying to walk like The Walking Dead notably early outbreak city setting, a boat, a villa and hotel respectively. When avoiding The Walking Dead military The Warriors gang tropes is seems to fare better. A jump in time in season 4 has helped usher in Morgan Jones but trading off that interesting earlier outbreak vibe.

The acting in this episode is particularly strong. Garret Lee Dillahunt's John Dorie is on tracker form, along side Walking Dead's Lennie James who portrays stick wielding Morgan. Here Jones gives some good advice to Nick and gifts him his little book of peace. We find member Maggie Grace's Althea holds a journalist secret. Kim Dickens as Madison Clark appears in Nicks flashbacks which become poignant in retrospect. Colman Domingo is on usual problem solving form as Victor.

This is a stand out episode most notable for selfless recovered heroin addict Johnny Depp-alike Frank Dillane's Nick Clark meeting a surprise death! After fittingly exacting revenge, his untimely demise is by the hand of child. Shot dead! Dillane is excellent durning blood curdling death scene and actor Alycia Debnam-Carey shines as Nick's sister in his final moments.

While a strong game changing curve ball episode it's a shame such an interesting and great character wonderfully played is shockingly killed off, that said, there's plenty more life Fears back to basics and grounded character approach. Let just hope that Fear doesn't become a one gang verses another gang show.
