A New Year means lots of removals from Netflix and January 1st is looking busy, with over 100 movies set to leave the service already. Below, we’ll be keeping track of all the Netflix departures for the first month of 2024.
First, a few housekeeping notes as to how Netflix removals work before we dive in. Due to licensing agreements, shows and movies added to Netflix aren’t added forever. Instead, they’re essentially rented for a fixed period. All the shows below have their current window on Netflix ending and will likely be bound for a rival streaming service.
We list titles slightly differently from other outlets, with our listings being the actual day of removal. If you want to watch any titles scheduled to expire on January 1st, for example, you’ll need to watch by the end of December 31st.

When Heroes Fly is leaving Netflix – Picture: Netflix
A New Year is just around the corner. Once again, we can make a feature from all the Netflix Originals currently set to depart the service globally or in select regions throughout January 2024.
If you’re wondering why some Netflix Originals are leaving Netflix – you wouldn’t be alone. In recent years, we’ve seen a slew of Netflix Originals depart the service and this mostly comes down to how Netflix licenses titles (particularly a lot of its earlier Originals). In some cases, Netflix simply picked up the international rights for certain series and movies for a fixed period. In these cases, calling them Netflix Exclusives is probably more appropriate, but it is what it is.
All of these movies, series and specials will soon be listed on our master list of every Netflix Original that has departed the service.

Kendall Jenner is poking some fun at herself.
On Sunday, the reality star shared video and photos on social media of her Halloween costume, a giant slice of cucumber, in reference to one of her viral moments on “The Kardashians”.

In the episode, which aired in May, Kendall paid a visit to her mom, Kris Jenner, and started making herself a snack by chopping up a cucumber. But it quickly became clear her chopping skills were not up to snuff, as at one point she awkwardly crossed one hand over the other.
“I’m definitely not a good cutter, so don’t zoom in on me. I’m not professional whatsoever,” she said.
In a video shared to TikTok, Kendall poses in the cucumber costume, complete with a fake knife to really make the joke land.

Continuing our series of writers highlighting underseen films to stream is a recommendation of John Huston’s controversial Ptsd documentary
In the dog days of the second world war, John Huston travelled to the Mason general hospital in Brentwood, Long Island, to shoot a documentary about a group of wounded soldiers preparing to return to civilian life. Let There Be Light was the third commission in what sounds like an increasingly fraught partnership between the director and the US army signal corps. Huston’s first film (Report From the Aleutians) screened without incident, while his second (The Battle of San Pietro) sparked walk-outs among the military top brass during its Washington preview. But Let There Be Light hit the jackpot. It was immediately yanked and buried, and languished unseen for the next 35 years.

The latest in our series of writers recommending underseen films highlights a French coming-of-age gay drama
In the absence of a proper Pride month this year, I’ve found myself hunting down LGBT cinema more than usual. Living through a time like this – severed from a larger, in-person queer community – has seen films such as Saving Face, Weekend and Beach Rats suddenly serve a bigger role in my life. Queer films are typically indie, underpromoted productions – but there is a certain subclass that come and go without making even the faintest buzz. I Am Jonas is one of those: a dark, atmospheric French drama I only stumbled upon because I was desperately looking for something I haven’t watched in Netflix’s LGBT category yet.

The original Law & Order series premiered in Sept. 1990 and although the Og ran its final episode in 2010, the Svu spinoff is coming up on its 18th season since it first started in 1999.
“The Simpsons”
America’s favorite cartoon family has been on air since December1989, and it doesn’t look like the sitcom is going anywhere any time soon. “The Simpsons” will be premiering its 28th season later this mont.
“South Park”
The raunchy adult animated (key word being adult) sitcom first debuted in August 1997. Though its aim seems to be to offend every one possible, “South Park” will be around until at least 2019.

Guess who’s back in town? The Boys. The first season of Garth Ennis’ superhero takedown was a smash hit for Amazon Prime and garnered some of the best ratings the network has ever had. Its success was well-deserved, too, with the show taking some timely pot-shots at superhero movies and celebrity culture in general. The first season ended on a big cliffhanger for Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher, and I can’t wait to see what’s coming next.
The initial trailer for the second season was released back in December, and since then we’ve heard constant hints that the already Ott action is set to get more extreme. Antony Starr, who plays twisted Superman analog Homelander, teased that his storyline gets “really f*cking weird”, star Jack Quaid has said that the second season is “insane” and the show’s executive producer Eric Kripke claims that we...

When first learning of the existence of a Beastie Boys story brought to us by Spike Jonze, their most prolific music video director, next to McA’s Swiss filmmaker uncle, Nathanial Hörnblowér, there was little expectation it would look much like the indecipherably similar rockumentaries that are getting churned out en-masse nowadays. As it turns out, Beastie Boys Story is a charming, retrospective speech-style stage show Mc’d by Beasties, Ad-Rock and Mike D, told with humor, spontaneity, and a damn interesting life’s worth of anecdotes, hard-earned lessons, and appropriately sentimental reminiscences. Speaking to Beastie Boys, Adam 'Ad-Rock' Horovitz and Michael 'Mike D' Diamond, along with frequent collaborator, director Spike Jonze, via a quarantine Zoom interview, the gang discussed the origins of the stage show that become...

A year ago, Adam Horovitz and Mike Diamond, of the Beastie Boys, premiered an extended theatrical evening in which the two got up onstage and chronicled the band’s 30-year history, from soup to nuts (pun intended), with photographs, TV and film clips, home videos, animated doodads, and other archival tidbits flashing on a screen behind them. The event, which premiered in Philadelphia, was staged by Spike Jonze, who had directed several Beastie Boys videos, notably the epochal ’70s-cop-show prankfest he laid over the big beat of “Sabotage.” Jonze approached the show as if it were the live-theater version of a documentary — the key difference being that Horovitz and Diamond wrote out what they were going to say beforehand, reading their recollections off a teleprompter (with a good deal of joshing spontaneity) and shaping it all, with the assistance of Jonze, so that the evening had the personalized flow and detail of a memoir.

Chances are, no matter how much television you normally watch, you’ve been watching more than usual lately. A lot more. We’re all stuck inside, bored to tears, and there’s only so many times you can watch the same Parks and Recreation reruns. (Except for the Snake Juice episode. That one has infinite replay value.) In the midst of all this bad news, the good news is that new TV shows and highly anticipated premieres continue to arrive with regularity. (At least for now: the Covid-19 pandemic has...

Although production is currently experiencing delays as a result of the coronavirus, The Boys season 2 is still on track for a 2020 release on Amazon Prime. Executive producer Eric Kripke, who recently discussed the new extremes that the second season is going to achieve, and teased new character Stormfront, has now put out some fresh images from the series. The shots, which you can catch below, show returning characters Homelander and Billy Butcher, and while not revealing much, at least demonstrate that progress is being made on the show.
At present, we don’t know too much about The Boys season 2, apart from repeated comments by the production team and cast that they’ll be going to even more dark and twisted places than their initial season. In particular, Stormfront is being set up as a new threat to Butcher and Hughie, with powers that may draw on touchstones like Thor and Shazam,...

Go ahead, “The Masked Singer” fans: Dare to imagine perfect casting of the hottest male singing stars. Who would you want to discover lurking hidden under those big floppy costumes of pandas, robots, flamingos, penguins, skeletons and thingamajigs? Rip off those (often furry) heads in your minds and tell us: who can you see underneath? Harry Styles? Justin Bieber? Shawn Mendes? Who else?
Don’t limit your imaginations by defeatist thoughts like: Oh, this-or-that hottie would never appear on a pop TV show. Don’t assume that your choices are too macho grand or lofty. Or too busy. Maybe they’re secretly big fans of “The Masked Singer” and would jump at the chance to dance and croon like an overstuffed … what character?

If Homelander has long established himself to be an unstoppable force of The Boys, then season 2 is about to unveil an immovable object.
Her name? Stormfront, Aya Cash’s newfangled member of the Seven who’s about to become a thorn in the side of Homelander. But Stormfront is so much more than an adversary to Antony Starr’s unhinged sociopath, she’s a “very empowered woman” whose abilities will surely be drawn from meteorological phenomena.
The exact nature of her power remains unclear, but what we can tell you is that Stormfront is said to be a combination of Thor and Shazam!, with “a little Nazism thrown in.” That will only spell danger for Hughie and Billy Butcher, who remain enemies of Vought following the events of The Boys season 1.
All in all, the debut season was a ferocious superhero drama unlike anything we’ve seen before, though series...

Netflix is adding a robust line-up of popular programs to its slate in March.
In addition to rom-coms like Matthew Mcconaughey’s “Ghosts of Girlfriend’s Past,” “He’s Just Not That Into You” and “Always a Bridesmaid,” the streamer is also adding a few classics like “Goodfellas” and “The Shawshank Redemption” starring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins. The latter film also serves as an analogy for actor Macaulay Culkin’s journey to freedom, according to his Esquire interview.
Original Netflix shows coming to the platform next month include “Lost Girls,” “Crip Camp” and Season 3 of “Elite.” Based on a true story, “Lost Girls” follows a mother who, in her desperate search to find her missing daughter, helps to uncover a string of unsolved murders. Amy Ryan, Gabriel Byrne and Thomasin Mckenzie make up the cast.
“Elite” follows three working-class teens who enroll in an exclusive Spanish private school. But once they arrive,...
