Stars: Matt Whelan, Luciane Buchanan, Zara Nausbaum, Ascia Maybury | Written and Directed by Scott Walker
Set in 1978, The Tank opens with Ben getting some news about his deceased mother. It appears his father left her coastal property in Hobbit’s Bay Oregon that she never told anyone about. He also finds out that rather than dying in a car accident, his father and sister drowned in said bay. Of course, you or I know better than to go near something like that because it never ends well. Ben, of course, packs up his wife Jules and their daughter Reia (Zara Nausbaum; The Other Side of Heaven 2: Fire of Faith) and goes to check it out.
Writer/director Scott Walker does throw a switch at viewers by having the house actually look like it’s been abandoned for decades. Boarded up, weathered, and overgrown with vines and other vegetation on the outside,...

No shock, Spider-Man and the like dominated the July 4th holiday weekend, mostly sidelining the specialties, save for some solid holdovers. Only a very few limited release titles braved an opening. Roadside Attractions bowed Sundance 2019 doc Marianne And Leonard: Words of Love in four New York and Los Angeles theaters to a decent start. The Nick Broomfield-directed film about the relationship between Leonard Cohen and his Norwegian muse, Marianne Ihlen, grossed an estimated $44,311 in the three-day estimate, averaging $11,077.
“We picked [the holiday weekend] because there’s Spider-Man and we’ll have [the standout] specialty,” said Roadside Attractions co-president Howard Cohen ahead of the title’s bow earlier in the week. “It’s also a good time for docs.”
Music-related docs have had good runs with summer launches. Sony Classics’ July 2012 opener, Searching For Sugar Man, actually opened a bit slower in three locations in its opening frame, grossing over $27K, averaging $9,153. The title picked up momentum,...

Seventeen years after The Other Side of Heaven became one of the earliest releases in what's now called the "faith-based" genre, the movie about a Mormon's true-life mission to help the needy in the Tongan islands in the 1950s is getting a sequel.
Like the first film, the sequel, dubbed The Other Side of Heaven 2: Fire of Faith, tells of Elder John Groberg, though this time he has returned to Tonga in the 1960s as a married man with five daughters.
While much of the conflict in the original stemmed from a hostile relationship between Groberg and a ...

Exclusive: Almost two decades after The Other Side of Heaven became one of the buzz titles that would help propel the faith-based movie market, original director Mitch Davis and star Christopher Gorham are ready to take the wraps off the sequel. The pic, titled The Other Side of Heaven 2: Fire of Faith, is now set to hit theaters June 7, 2019 via Davis’ Two Roads Productions, the company behind inspirational films including 2016’s The Stray, 2015’s Christmas Eve and 2008’s Language of the Enemy.
The original The Other Side of Heaven, which co-starred Anne Hathaway, grossed $4.75 million at the box office via Excel Entertainment and found even more traction on home video via Disney, centered on the true story of Mormon Elder John H. Groberg (Gorham) and his missionary adventures in Tonga in the 1950s as a 19-year-old bachelor. The sequel also based on true events tells of his return to...
