For reasons I can't describe I have been watching a slew of independent found footage shorts lately and they've certainly been a mixed bag.
The Ouija Board Project is a contender for the worst one for a host of reasons, but perhaps not the reasons you'd imagine.
For a start it suffers from none of the usual found footage tropes, there is no shaky cam, no night vision and no justifying why they are still recording when things go south.
It tells the story of a guy who chooses to propose to his girlfriend using a ouija board, but as you can imagine it doesn't go the way he planned.
At around the 36 minute mark it sadly fails and fails hard. 95% of the film is character development marred by a deeply annoying lead female who won't stop laughing! Seriously, it grinds on you.
Then when something happens it's messy, it's unexplained and it's one of those films that ends suddenly with no warning, no explanation and on no cliffhanger or big event. It just ends.
Credit where credit is due on the originality front, but there is simply no story here.
The Good:
Interesting enough concept
The Bad:
Very little actual content
No real story development
Her laugh, arrgghh!
Things I Learnt From This Movie:
I'm genuinely curious whether the girl was improvising or if 3/4 of her script simply read *Laughs* *Laughs* *Laughs*
