- Captain Christopher Pike: You allowed the fight to proceed?
- Saru: Well, I believe the confrontation was a necessary and unavoidable catharsis for both men.
- Captain Christopher Pike: But... hardly an example of by-the-book conflict resolution.
- Saru: The Starfleet manual offers no regulatory guidelines for interactions between humans with Klingons grafted to their bones and a ship's doctor returned from the dead.
- Leland: Welcome back, Commander. What were you doing on Talos?
- [Spock remains silent]
- Leland: This will go easier if you answer me. Or it can go harder.
- Michael Burnham: I beg to differ. Say goodbye, Spock.
- Spock: [Gives the Vulcan Salute] Goodbye Spock.
- [Michael Burnham and Spock vanish as nothing more than a projection from the Talosians]
- Philippa Georgiou: Those Talosians tried this trick with me in the Terran Universe once, and I blew them and their stupid singing plants off the face of the planet.
- Philippa Georgiou: All of this reliance on computerized threat analysis bothers me. In my universe, the artificial intelligence took orders *from* me, not the other way around.
- Spock: Greetings, Captain.
- Captain Christopher Pike: Spock! Are you alright?
- Spock: Much better for seeing you in person, sir. Even if we are only riding into danger.
- [gives a small smile]
- Captain Christopher Pike: Is that a smile I see on your face?
- Spock: I believe it is. Yes.
- Michael Burnham: You saw the Red Angel.
- Spock: First as a child, than again a few months ago.
- Michael Burnham: What is it? Who is it?
- Spock: If I knew, we would not be here.
- Michael Burnham: I was asking rhetorically.
- Spock: Then at least ask something I have never asked of myself.
- Michael Burnham: Can we have a better version of this conversation?
- Spock: Is there a valuable question in your arsenal?
- Michael Burnham: Yes. Do you actually think the beard is working?
- Spock: [looks away, troubled, then touches his beard]
- Dr. Hugh Culber: [Culber attacks Tyler and they fight until Tyler gets him in a half body hold] I don't even know who I am, anymore.
- Specialist Ash Tyler: Who do you think you're talking to?
