- The residents of the little village called 'Schemermeer', prepare themselves for a large village festival. Vladimir, Wilko and Keelin, the members of the Nachtwacht, have extra reason to party for their friend and mentor Vega because he may finally leave his book. But the joy is of short duration because the three heroes get to hear bad news. One of them will have to leave the Nachtwacht. In the meantime, the supreme demon Nemmeza, creates nefarious plans to become the ruler of all worlds..—Hugo Van Herpe
- While Schemermeer has its annual costumed party, the Nachtwacht trio awaits a delegation from the white magic high council to recharge their magical attributes. Vegal is looking forward to this rare occasion to leave his book for a few hours, and to meet his old friend, vampire count Roman, who was in the previous watch batch, with Vega's beloved Iuno. Vlad hasn't told his mates Roman is his father, and still hesitates to admit to them he's about to be decommissioned and 'promoted' to the high council, which imposed a rule no one may serve on active watch duty over 77 years, which he now reaches. Wilko had an instant dislike to the slick, handsome magician Gideon, who is to be installed as new member. But the ceremony is abused by queen of demons Nemesa, who was locked up in a mirror in the gate of souls, to unleash terrible vengeance. The bitter row among three generations of watch members now takes a backseat to warding off the demonic horde and rescuing themselves, if they can.—KGF Vissers
