Football Sunday will be movie night for CBS’ Ghosts, and they’re watching a very on-brand film.
In the above Super Bowl commercial for the hit comedy, livings Sam and Jay gather with their ghostly “roommates” for the 1990 classic Ghost, starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg. In typical Ghosts fashion, there’s plenty of color commentary from the spirits about the movie’s plot, with the ad’s dialogue written by showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, per our sister site Deadline.

It’s a real case of life imitating art in this exclusive Ghosts promo which will air during the Super Bowl broadcast as Sam (Rose McIver), Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar), and the spirits of Woodstone sit down to watch the 1990 classic Ghost. The film starring Patrick Swayze, Whoopi Goldberg, and Demi Moore seems to enchant the whole group as they get swept up in the technicalities of it all. As they watch the scene in which Goldberg’s Oda Mae slides a penny under the door of Molly’s (Moore) apartment, Swayze’s Sam begins to push the coin up the wall as proof of his presence. “So frustrating, why she not believe husband is ghost?” Thorfinn (Devan Chandler Long) asks in annoyance. (Credit: CBS) “See, if you were a ghost, we wouldn’t have to worry because I’d still be able to see you,” Sam tells Jay who can...

CBS’ ‘Ghosts’ Meets Movie ‘Ghost’ In Super Bowl Promo, ‘Fire Country’ Does Halftime Pep Talk – Watch
CBS is using the Super Bowl on Sunday to promote its entire lineup of returning series which will roll out during the premiere week that will follow the sporting event. Two of them, comedy Ghosts and drama Fire Country, are getting special promos created specifically for the Big Game.
The Ghosts spot features Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar), Sam (Rose McIver) and their house ghosts doing a running commentary while sitting on the couch watching the Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg movie Ghost.
The Fire Country promo, designed to run during half-time features co-creator, executive producer and star Max Thieriot delivering a speech akin to an rousing coach half-time pep talk from a movie or TV series.
“Both are really high performing shows, and we think there is still a lot of opportunity to grow the audience for both,” Mike Benson, CBS’ President and Chief Marketing Officer, said about the...

On Sunday night, Mike Benson gets a little over seven minutes to cap off weeks of work.
The CBS marketing chief will use promo time allotted to Paramount Global during the Super Bowl to turbocharge a broad array of campaigns he has set in motion in the past few months aimed at getting viewers excited about one of the most unorthodox TV seasons in history.
“Think about what we are up against here,” says Benson, a veteran of the business of promoting programming who has also worked at ABC and Amazon. “It’s the first time going back to 1954 that a broadcast network is launching a season outside of the fall” due to the recent Hollywood talent strikes.
CBS will use the Super Bowl to tout not just the new drama “Tracker,” which gets its debut right after the end of the game, but also “Ghosts,” “Fire Country,” “So Help Me Todd” and “Young Sheldon.

Forced to choose under pain of neck-arrow, what would your favourite Ghosts episode be? The one with Pat’s death day? The Christmas panto ep? The Captain’s story finally told in “Carpe Diem”? Or the one where, in under half an hour, a bunch of comedy characters in silly costumes deliver the most emotionally insightful and instructive reflection on grief perhaps ever shown on TV? We nominated some corkers here, but they barely scratch the surface of this delightful, warm comedy.
Let’s leave it to the experts then. As told to Nathan Bryon on the BBC Sounds podcast Inside… Ghosts, here’s what the show’s creators and stars rate as their personal faves, now that the show is over. Nothing gold can stay. So the saying goes and is thoughtfully illustrated in Kleber Mendonça Filho’s latest film Pictures of Ghosts. It’s a mosaic portrait of the director’s hometown of Recife through the lens of cinema that resonates with the sense of unease many presently feel about the state of film.
The city, which is also the capital of the Brazilian state of Pernambuco, has a rich history of cinema that will come as a surprise to many. Filho unearths its cinematic past through archival footage blended with his own material presenting an evocative and personal account. He revives its halcyon days as a South American hub for Hollywood studios that erected glorious movie palaces and ushers us through its decay; which provided enough fertile ground for him to blossom into a filmmaker. His films––such as Aquarius, Neighboring Sounds, and Bacurau––are usually set so close...

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band have added a new date to their North American tour.
After their Phoenix, Arizona, show on March 14, they will go to Las Vegas on March 22 to perform at the T-Mobile Arena.
Last September, tour dates were forced to reschedule after Springsteen’s peptic ulcer disease. Shortly after announcing the rescheduled U.S. dates, concert dates for Canada were also declared.
Springsteen began his music career in 1964, but his popularity didn’t rise until 1975, when he and the E Street Band did a ten-show stand over five nights in New York City. Rolling Stone later included the performances in their “50 Moments That Change Rock and Roll” list.
The current tour is scheduled to run until November 22, 2024, in Vancouver, Canada.

Fans of CBS’s Ghosts won’t have to wait much longer to learn the fate of their favorite Woodstone Mansion spirits. The season 3 premiere of Ghosts is set to air on Feb. 15. The show’s writers don’t plan on holding off on revealing which spirit was “sucked off” in the season 2 finale for too long. While the premiere is still a few weeks away, the released logline suggests that a main house ghost is unlikely to be the spirit to leave.
Season 2 of ‘Ghosts’ ended on a major cliffhanger
The SAG-AFTRA strike pushed back the return date of many beloved TV shows. Ghosts fans were extra bummed about the delay because their series ended on a major cliffhanger. In the season 2 finale, Sam watches a bright light take a spirit from Woodstone Mansion off to heaven. The episode ended before Sam, Jay, and the viewers learned which ghost had moved on.

Season two of CBS’s popular half-hour comedy Ghosts ended on a cliffhanger that left fans speculating as to the identity of the ghost who has moved on. Sam watched (and described to Jay) from the driveway of the Woodstone Mansion Bed & Breakfast as one of the ghosts got “sucked off” – the unfortunate term used by the dearly departed to indicate one has finally left Earth and is a ghost no more.
The teaser for season three episode one, “The Owl,” gives nothing away as it shows Sam searching the house, with Jay trying to help out before remembering he can’t see ghosts. CBS’s official description of the season three premiere airing on February 15, 2024 at 8:30pm Et/Pt also doesn’t reveal any specifics:

‘Ghosts’ Producer Developing TV Version Of Podcast About Prolific British Con Woman
Ghosts producer Monumental Television is developing a TV version of a Global podcast about one of the most prolific fraudsters in British history. The indie has secured rights to Filthy Ritual, which is about Juliette D’Souza, who at the turn of the century wreaked havoc on a number of people’s lives until a rag-tag team of her victims came together to fight for justice. Described by her neighbors as being like ‘a knife in a velvet glove’, D’Souza claimed to have a special connection to an ancient source of power and wisdom deep in the Amazonian jungle, and she is said to have made at least £1M through extortion and manipulation. ITV Studios-backed Monumental makes BBC One smash Ghosts, which has been adapted for CBS, along with the likes of ITV’s Maryland and UKTV’s The Marlow Murder Club.

Enid Blyton’s The Magic Faraway Tree is finally heading to the movies, with Simon Farnaby writing the script. More here.
For many years, there’s been talking of bringing Enid Blyton’s much-loved children’s tale The Magic Faraway Tree to the big screen. The book’s character names changed over time – there’s no Fanny anymore – but it’s still continued to find a new audience.
Once upon a time, the idea of a film of The Magic Faraway Tree was something being set up at Studiocanal. However, when personnel left Studiocanal to set up Elysian, the film went with them. Simon Farnaby has long been attached to write the script, and he’s remained a constant as the project bumbles along in limbo.
But it sounds as if it’s just found fresh life.
Still with Elysian, funding has now been chipped in too via Neal Street Productions.

Shining Vale star Mira Sorvino was the favorite heading into Tuesday’s (January 2) Celebrity Jeopardy! semi-finals, but it was Abbott Elementary‘s Lisa Ann Walter who made an impressive comeback to take home the win. The semi-finals saw Sorvino facing off against Walter and Ghosts star Utkarsh Ambudkar, and it initially looked like Sorvino’s game to lose. She’d previously won her first game against CSI: Miami actor Adam Rodriguez and NFL Network host Peter Schrager, which aired just a day after she was eliminated from Dancing With the Stars. Jeopardy! producer Sarah Whitcomb Foss previously described this episode as “her favorite match of the season,” and it certainly lived up to the billing as all three contestants got out to a hot start, with all three within $300 at the first break. Walter had a slight lead after the Jeopardy! round after finding the first Daily Double, going into...

Warning: contains spoilers for the Ghosts 2023 Festive Special “A Christmas Gift”
Once upon a time, BBC sitcom Ghosts wanted to scare you. The original thinking for the show according to co-creator Jim Howick, was to make a horror-comedy. Early episodes paid homage to moments in spooky film classics such as the medicine cabinet jump scare in An American Werewolf in London. At the start, the writers indulged themselves with horror tropes, says Howick, the actor behind 1980s Adventure Group leader Pat. “But we realised that as soon as you got to know the ghosts, there was nothing really frightening about them at all. Once you get familiar with the characters, the horror sort of drains away.”
In Ghosts’ fourth festive special “A Christmas Gift”, the horror is back. Mike’s mother Betty (Lorna Gayle) catches sight of an apparition on a baby monitor, and sees a blanket being pulled by...

“I could read that all day!” says Ghosts co-creator Jim Howick with a smile. It’s mid-December, two weeks before the BBC comedy’s finale is due to air on Christmas Day, and Howick has just pulled up his and Mat Baynton’s episode script to check a detail while we talk on Zoom. Would he read a few lines out?
“The car drives away. The waving ghosts recede into the distance. Fade to black. The music stops. Is that the end? No. We fade back in on the driveway, and the music starts again, but the house looks different. It’s all beautifully restored and decorated, tastefully, for Christmas.
“An older couple step into the frame in the foreground, their backs to camera. Looking up at the house, she holds the handle of the wheelie case, and he has...
