2 self aware characters give the audience insight into this weird city

Much like most of his other projects, Dylan O'Brien is a surrogate for the audience in this strange world. He's just as horrified by the pretentiousness of the 'Above the Line' Crowd as the audience is supposed to be.

With less than 30 minutes this comedy manages to introduce characters that are relatable in a world that is not. It was made possible by stellar casting.

Ed O'Neil has always been cast as an undersell, and his masculinity and appeal is always good-natured and hidden under a lovable or pitiful innocence.

Dylan O'Brien's appeal depends greatly in his ability to humanize his characters and put himself into his roles. He seems self-aware of how mad the upper class world is, above the line.

The show worked due to the cast's ability to convince the audience that people would live like the 'aboves' and conform to an indulgent life that borders on sinister in it's insistence that residents above the line conform to certain standards

Tiny dirty jokes inserted without a laugh track or a pause make this one of the most well-written pieces of work I've seen in a long time.

O'Brien shows his stealth comedy skills once again, and O'Neil reminds us why we believed Vera Farmiga would marry him, and why he is still in the business

Episode 1

Warning: Spoilers
Not all of the jokes worked, a lot of them didn't, but having that in your face comedy in an anthology series like this made it stand out. This felt similar to the UK series Inside No. 9.

Not a particularly shocking twist, but a pretty strong first episode for the new series.

Not enough world building

I didn't understand the ending...So everyone is a slave? Why did they have to legally divorce because of a dating service that costs money? And how could you have a flying hotdog stand, but not flying bike or cars..Its like inventing the roll on deodorant before inventing the wheel.
