I do see a heavy influence of the works from the Brothers Quay here; I wouldn't call this a "shameless rip-off" as Kurt Cobain did back then, but the inspiration seems clear anyway (Street of Crocodiles and the Comb in particular have a very somewhat similar eerie vibe). However, Sober has a more visceral horror approach, very fitting for the dark mood of the song.
Along with the hanting "Prison Sex" video, this is one of the best works from the late Fred Stuhr. His sudden death in 1997 was a massive loss for the indie American animation scene, but those two videos alone still remain as his timeless legacy to this very day.
8.5/10.
