A married father of three, Pierre, is in love with his sister-in-law Marianne, while he is coveted and loved by his cousin Agnès, a crippled old maid. Marianne confesses that she loves him in return, but she prefers to marry Rémy who is a free young man. In the end, what will Agnès do? Will she be the one breaking up the couple or will she leave Pierre to his wife and three children? The whole tale is a love-triangle imbroglio, as well as a modern morality play.
