Okay to waste 80 minutes on

This was pretty by-the-numbers Asian horror, the effects aren't that great and the ending was kind of weird, but the actors are fine, the cinematography is fine and there was some nice makeup and a few decent jump scares. And it's short, which I appreciate - don't push it by making a 120 minute movie when you know you're making a jump scare movie.

If you're a horror buff and haven't seen this one, which applies to me, it was fine to watch.

Movie is only for horror genre lovers
After years of living in the city, Nak and his wife Thida move to his childhood home in the country, close to the beach. Planned on starting a family, both already dream of raising their children in this beautiful environment surrounded by the jungle and next to the ocean. As Nak used to work in the city, Thida lives alone along with her housekeeper quite often.

However, soon enough strange events keep Thida awake at night. Beginning with tap running and pools of water in the house which mysteriously disappear from one moment to the other, the young couple soon senses another presence in the house. And when the spirit starts attacking Thida, the young woman realizes their lives are in great danger.

In the case of "The Spell" director cleverly relies on the background score, which, combined with the atmospheric lighting which provides an environment of more and more hostile as the film progresses.

"The Spell" is a moody, tense horror film blended with family drama. "The Spell" is a worthwhile entry into the genre with many scary scenes and imagery.

Likes and Dislikes

The plot is known and tasted a lot like this which is making bored. Cinematography is good in places like the detailing of the house, outdoor places. Screenplay was great on some Goosebumps moment but draggy on the rest. Characters are not appropriate which made fabby in screenplay.

I thought this was very engaging and stylish 🇰🇭👻film - interestingly photographed. I only wish there had been a bit more local colour as most, except for o e trip to the fish market, takes place in a house which could be in any SE Asian country. Definitely deserves more than the 4.5/10 I saw when I first looked it up here. Hope more people see and appreciate it!!
