Not entirely convincing, a clear misfire.

I went into this with high hopes, being a Catholic. However, as the episodes progressed, I became more and more dissuaded by their arguments. The acting, the settings, and the art direction are all high quality. However, it will not be enough to keep your interest for very long. What shocked me was what they excluded! They did not mention the Great Schizm of 1054, which divided Eastern Orthodox Churches from Rome in the West. The narrator gets extremely presumptuous at points! They try to portray current immorality in Protestant Europe as the result of what happened with Martin Luther in 1517, but always neglect some obvious counter-points! This is more propaganda than anything else, and I'm a Catholic! Some of it is obviously very cheesy and presents some flimsy arguments. But it did mention a few things I didn't know of before, and it presents some interesting history and battle re-enactments that are high in production value. Another criticism is how much time they spend on the English Reformation, neglecting other aspects of the situation. They did not mention the Spanish Inquisition, although it happened about 40 years prior. There's not enough here for me to completely recommend this.
