Exclusive: Jenn Levy, who has overseen series including Queer Eye and Is It Cake? at Netflix, is leaving the streamer.
Deadline understands that Levy, who is VP Nonfiction, is leaving at the end of this week.
She has been with the company since 2017, having joined as Director of Unscripted Originals from NBCUniversal’s Bravo, where she had spent nine years. She was the company’s unscripted chief Brandon Riegg’s first hire after he joined the company at the end of 2016.
The move is somewhat of a surprise given the success of Netflix’s recent reality pipeline.
Queer Eye is heading in to its eighth season; Love Is Blind — arguably Netflix’s biggest unscripted hit — is back in February with Season 6; and the company behind that series, Kinetic Content, also is behind The Ultimatum, which has aired two seasons and has a spinoff. This year’s American Music Awards show is looking at some big changes behind the scenes, as ABC and Dick Clark Productions are announcing that Jesse Collins — recently of the Grammys and Oscars — is taking over as showrunner and executive producer, starting with the telecast set for Nov. 21 of this year.

The show is hip-hop talent format where celebrity contestants, coached by iconic hip-hop mentors, go head-to-head in rap battles until a king or queen is crowned. Casting is underway.
G-Unit Film & Television is producing with Sfo Entertainment and Jackson will exec produce with Antonio Collier, Jon Sheinberg, Susie Ursitti Sheinberg, Gwen Osborne and Matt Feige.
Jackson exec produces ABC drama For Life, which was canceled by the Disney-owned broadcast network after two seasons but is currently available on IMDb TV with the potential for a third season if it performs well on the Amazon-owned free streamer.

Exclusive: Lincoln and Mr. Robot actress Gloria Reuben has boarded both Blumhouse/Weed Road/Universal’s Firestarter and Showtime’s limited series The First Lady about the women at the heart of the White House. I’m told that Reuben has a leading role in Firestarter.
Season one of the Aaron Cooley created, Lionsgate and Showtime produced series focuses on Eleanor Roosevelt (Gillian Anderson), Betty Ford (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Michelle Obama (Viola Davis). Cooley will write several of the episodes and serve as EP.
Reuben will portray Valerie June Jarrett, senior advisor to President Obama. Jarrett was Michelle Obama’s friend and former boss, whom Michelle credits with teaching her about personal growth in the workplace. Oscar winner Cathy Schulman (Crash), Viola Davis, Julius Tennon, Andrew Wang, Susanne Bier, Jeff Gaspin (Rhythm + Flow), and Brad Kaplan (Mr. Church) are also EPs on The First Lady.

(Updated with statement from T.I.’s lawyer) Already facing public allegations from nearly a dozen women of sexually assaulting and drugging them, T.I. is now in the spotlight of the Los Angeles Police Department.
“There is an active investigation into Clifford Harris,” Officer William Cooper of the LAPD told Deadline on Monday, referring to T.I.’s real name. The official statement comes after rumors of a cop shop probe against T.I and his wife Tameka “Tiny” Harris began circulating earlier in the day. The LAPD would not confirm whether Tiny Harris was also being investigated.
The investigation has been underway for the past several weeks, I hear. LAPD detectives met with a Jane Doe last month to discuss claims of a drugging and rape by T.I. and Tiny back in 2005. The detectives have been looking into other claims as well, sources tell Deadline.

Spoiler Alert: This piece contains spoilers for the first five episodes of “WandaVision.”
If “WandaVision” had dropped its entire season all at once instead of teasing its mystery out over weeks of storytelling, what would we make of it?
I asked myself this question a lot while watching the first three episodes I initially had to review, and then even more once the fourth episode (“We Interrupt This Program”) dropped. After three episodes of sitcom parodies laced with creeping unease, “We Interrupt This Program” left behind Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) in order to connect the series back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe from whence it came. Friendly neighbor “Geraldine” was revealed to be Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), a S.W.O.R.D. agent who disappeared five years ago after Thanos snapped away half the universe in “The Avengers” movies. What’s more, Monica and Dr. Darcy Lewis...

Rapper Cardi B has landed what will be her first starring movie role in the comedy “Assisted Living” for Paramount Pictures.
Cardi will play a small-time crook who finds herself in over her head when a heist goes wrong. In order to evade the cops and her former crew, she decides to disguise herself as an elderly woman in her estranged grandmother’s nursing home. The film is in the vein of comedies like “Sister Act” and “Mrs. Doubtfire.”
Kay Oyegun (“This Is Us”) wrote the original spec screenplay that Paramount bought in a competitive bidding war in 2019. No director has been set. Temple Hill and Stephen Love are producing “Assisted Living.”

Cardi B has scored her first leading role in a movie. The hip-hop icon is set to star in Paramount’s upcoming film “Assisted Living.”
“Assisted Living” is being described as a “raucous comedy” with “tremendous heart,” in the vein of classic funny films like “Tootsie,” “Sister Act” and “Mrs. Doubtfire.” It follows Amber (Cardi B), a small-time crook who finds herself in over her head when a heist goes wrong. On the run from the cops and her former crew, she struggles to find anywhere to hide. Running out of options, Amber disguises herself as an elderly woman and hides out in the one place no one will look — her estranged grandmother’s nursing home.
Paramount won rights to “Assisted Living” in a competitive bidding war in spring of 2019. The film is based on an original spec script by Kay Oyegun, a writer for “This Is Us.” Temple Hill and Stephen Love are producing.

Director Steven Soderbergh and producers Stacey Sher and Jesse Collins will produce the 93rd Academy Awards on April 25, 2021, the Academy announced on Tuesday.
The announcement did not specify whether the show would be in-person or virtual, a decision that will not be made until the course of the Covid-19 pandemic is clearer.
While Collins is a television producer with a long history of producing live awards shows like the Grammys, BET Awards and Soul Train Awards and Sher is a veteran producer with Oscar nominations for “Django Unchained” and “Erin Brockovich,” the presence of Soderbergh on the producing team is a surprise and something of a coup for Academy president David Rubin.
Soderbergh, who won the Best Director Oscar for “Traffic” in 2000, is an adventurous and iconoclastic film and television director whose work includes “sex, lies and videotape,” “Contagion,” “Out of Sight,” the “Oceans” movies, “Magic Mike” and the recent...

Directing Oscar winner Soderbergh (“Traffic”) has earned recent praise, not only for his filmmaking, but for leading the taskforce at the Directors Guild of America that has set Covid safety guidelines for the industry.

Of all the major Primetime Emmy categories, the competition program field has been the most in need of a shakeup. This is a not-so-amazing race that rarely changes — although this year, ironically, “The Amazing Race” won’t be a part of it.
For the first time since the category launched in 2003, “The Amazing Race” — which won the competition series Emmy 10 times — won’t be among the nominees, as it didn’t air during the eligibility period. That will open the door for at least one new nominee — and maybe more, given the recent TV Academy rule that allows up to eight slots depending on how many programs are submitted.
Turnover in the competition race has moved at a glacial pace. Last year, Netflix’s “Nailed It” entered the category, displacing “Project Runway,” but in 2018, the five nominees were the same as 2017. And then there’s the fact that only four...

The Angry Birds are making a foray into series television. Netflix has given a series order to Angry Birds: Summer Madness, based on the iconic world of the Angry Birds, from Cake and Rovio Entertainment. It’s set for a global premiere in 2021.
Angry Birds: Summer Madness takes its cue from the humor and tone of The Angry Birds Movie franchise while revealing a fresh new look, Netflix says. The 40 x 11 minute episode series sees much-loved birds Red, Bomb and Chuck, as well as a cast of brand new feathered friends, as tween birds at summer camp under the questionable guidance of their counselor Mighty Eagle. Explosive antics, improbable pranks and crazy summertime adventures see the birds pushing boundaries and breaking all the rules while fending off the brash and obnoxious Pigs on the other side of the lake, who seem hell-bent on causing as much mayhem as possible!
