Amateur Hour (and 17 minutes)
ludichrisallen7 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I knew from the trailer that this movie wasn't likely to be a gem, but wow, it was terrible. The writing is so forced, the dialogue unnatural. I don't mind overwritten, stagy dialogue if it's clever. David Mamet, for example. This script TRIES to be a writer's movie, but it plays like something written for a community college screenwriting class. Night school. It's BAD. And I got the feeling throughout that the casting was prioritizing relationships over talent. I imagine those Malibu friends are the real-life friends/girlfriends of the exec producers...I can't think of another reason to cast them.

There are two truly inexcusable elements to this movie. Well, more than two to be honest, but the worst were the breaking of the fourth wall during the Malibu parties and the inclusion of a Greek chorus style three piece rock band. They showed up whenever the lead was in crisis and screamed some unintelligible lyrics at her. What the hell were they singing anyway? And WHY? Just, why?? I don't think the writer/director understands the importance of a Greek chorus. They're the proxy for the audience in the story; they're not just shrill window dressing. And the party member speaking TO the audience didn't add anything either. I don't need your shallow analysis of Malibu social scene, which in this case amounts to about a dozen forcibly diverse partygoers in unlikely wardrobe choices. I found the casting especially maddening and unexplained, and I'm an African American producer!! That friend group, especially in freaking Malibu requires an explanation, or at least a nod. The writer went to the trouble to over explain every other detail of the characters, going so far as to name one of them "Nice Guy," lest we miss the point. But they don't explain why this therapist is the only white person (again, in MALIBU) in her friend group?

Finally, they try to cover too many bases, steal too many themes (and writing styles), and do NONE of it well. They cannot seem to decide if this is a rom com or a melodrama. If it's a romp about sexual misadventures or a cautionary tale about drug abuse. And they sure did wrap up that drug storyline hastily. Again, no explanation or even one scene showing her recovery journey. Simply one day she's lost her job due in part to her drug use, and the next day she's being recommended for a job...at a Malibu drug rehab. Umm...okay.

I wish this was one of those "it's so bad, it's good!" movies, but it isn't. It's just an illustration of how, with the right connections, even untalented people can get their movies green lit. And that is the real tragedy. There are people in the world and in Hollywood who have true talent and are being ignored, and yet this amateur script gets produced. It's a shame.

LEAD ACTRESS SOARS
shimadaboli5 October 2020
Loves Me, Loves Me Not is about a 30 year old (I think) going through a bad year beginning with a boyfriend from the past who gets killed robbing a jewelry store. Her relationships are divided by the boyfriend's nicknames: Mr. Nice Guy, Dead Guy, I can't remember the others.

They say good acting is all about reacting. The main actress, Isabelle Chester, has amusing reaction shots and is very likable. The end of the movie is a little abrupt but makes sense. The cast is VERY attractive. 5/10

I guess one way to get people to see it is to put a bunch of fake ratings up.

The worst movie I have ever seen!!!
majnunbedouin6 October 2020
Everything about this film was atrocious! The acting was sub-par. The script was a joke, it seemed like it may have been written by 13 year old back in 1990. The sound track was pathetic. The lighting was some of the worst I have ever witnessed. I paid 6.99 to watch it..... it owes me so much more back! Do not watch it

A virginity box? Wtf come on man!!!

Bad film, pumped up reviews
carlitosnavas1 October 2020
The only thing about this film and the reason I finished it is the gorgeous blonde, and her acting, other than that, the casting is horrible, and the acting from the secondary actors is horrible too, they try too hard to force down the throat diversity and inclusion.

Hilarious surprises, very heartwarming story!
pointnemoproductions19 January 2021
I honestly think the other reviews on here are a bit too harsh. It may not be a perfect 10, but for a free movie on Amazon, I found it to be a delight. Very fun for a movie about a woman searching for love and purpose. It has several comedic surprises that were completely unexpected and hilarious, as well as a very heartwarming ending! Very original compared to a lot of other movies I've seen in the same genre.

Loves Me, Loves Me Not is unafraid to cross boundary lines and discusses uncomfortable topics without hesitation. A daring film. Great diverse cast.

edgy yet mature
leynasanee20 September 2020
Isabelle Chester is playing an inappropriate therapist which borders between trying hard and practicing all the inappropriate moves, looking for Mr. goodbar. The story sets in Malibu, with quick, clever dialogue, edgy yet mature in its depiction. The cast is top notch but the laughs don't come often.

David Chokachi is hot!
susanrowan-362669 October 2020
I see London, I see France, I see David Chokachi withOUT his underpants. I always had a crush on him from his BAYWATCH days. In Loves Me, Loves Me Not, he's just as good. And his nakedness is right on. Movie isn't perfect, it made me laugh but some reviewers are clearly trolls/haters. I give it a solid 7.

Crashed and burned (almost!)
ninaswevie14 September 2020
The lead actress ( don't recall her name) anchored the movie and was very good, personable, and sexy. She has these disastrous dates that lead her on a downward path. Note: this film has nudity but very tastefully done. The cast was diverse, a black best friend, an Iranian, a Russia, a man in a wheelchair, and more. I like the fact that the men all are well rounded characters. Glad I saw it. 10 out of 10.

How meaningful the relation between two partners can be
marasia-8602620 September 2020
Loves Me Loves Me Not makes the audience to try to find out a part of stories that match their own, I mean personal life, especially if you are a woman. The movie explores pain, past, situation, dream, mistakes all that you can not tell to someone and it makes you alone. Ali talks to her mom and shares those moments. Does she even exist? My problem with the movie is that she is looking for someone to make her happy but she doesn't know what makes her happy. The effect of the relation between Ali and the people she dates is meaningful and at the same time disastrous and meaningless.

A pleasantly adult comedy
dianscally14 September 2020
Just saw the movie streaming at Burbank Film Festival .There were a lot of quirky things thrown into Loves Me, Loves Me Not. A very modern non-romance. Although the movie felt a little short. I really liked the range of tones in it. It felt like a pilot for a funny movie. I saw it is written by the writer of the Italian Job (which is one of my favorites). When are they going to make the sequel?

Quirky sexy romance, reminds me of a girl I once dated....I wonder where she is now.
jayveegirl31 October 2020
It's a little odd. And I like that. Different from most rom coms. Some people probably don't realize that it's a comedy. Maybe that's a problem with watching it at home, as opposed to watching it in a crowded theater with an audience laughing. On the other hand, if you like edgy sexy indie films, you'll find this interesting. It is skillfully directed. Reminds me of the director, Stanley Kubrick (the Shining with Jack Nicholson). For some, it might be too real. For some, not real enough. I got into it.

Oh, yeah, and it reminded me a a college girlfriend. When I was going to UCLA, a lot of people thought I was weird and stayed away from me. But this hot blond (I'll call her Alison) , who everyone wanted, connected with my humor and would sit down on the bench next to me and laugh at my stories. Then, because Alison was there, other people sat down next to us, and because she thought I was so cool, the other people thought I was so interesting. This was in the Theater Arts department. So now I had a following, all because of her. And I started to write plays, which were produced at UCLA. Alison drew cartoon advertisements for the play. People came. Even studio executives came and wrote letters to the UCLA faculty, complementing the production and the discovery of an up and coming writer. I had transformed from the weird loner to the up and coming interesting writer on campus. All because this one hot and wild college student connected with me.

After graduation, when everyone else was getting jobs or going to grad school, Alison became a stripper at a place near the airport. Later on, I became a lawyer, and that caused Alison to stop her friendship with me. She felt I had sold out on the underground life.

Anyway, this film, reminded me of her.

Good popcorn movie
brayanbatt20 September 2020
I loved the look of Loves Me, Loves Me Not. The whole setting and atmosphere of the film gave it a wonderful sense. This tone appealed to me DESPITE the dark dramedy of the story. However, the film has moral ambiguity. As much fun as it is to watch Isabelle Chester jumping from one place (and identity) to the next, spending inordinate amounts of time with guys who are not worthy, if she was my daughter, I would tell her to spend more time in church and less time in the bedroom.

The film has pretty good cinematography, location, settings, wardrobe, and a good cast. It kind of digs deep into the main girl and the dating world. The blonde actress was good.

A breath of fresh air
greenarts19 September 2020
Entertainment, organic nature of development, the comedy starts somewhere and grows almost like a living organism. The chemistry between characters , originating maybe from good acting. WHY WAS I ATTRACTED TO THIS MOVIE? 1.Star cast Isabelle Chester. 2. I love comedies. 3. Very organic plot development. 4.very funny throughout. 5. Great chemistry , very good acting by all. 5. there is enough material and different elements to keep you entertained and the brilliant ending brought light to a tricky situation resulted by the main character's decisions. Certainly worth a watch. You will know within the first 30 minutes if it is not for you. For me, it is a breath of fresh air.

Good romantic comedy, a modern romance
jannetkylstont8 November 2020
This film is a perfect character study with some funny moments, Ali is a therapist with a dry humor who is dating other guys and also has a sensitive and passionate side. I watched the movie with my girl friend and we could both relate to some aspects of Ali's relationships with other guys. Our favorites were Mr. Nice guy and Finnegan! Finnegan transformation was hilarious. We had a good time!

Loves Me, Loves Me Not, is cleverly written and performed - there is a great deal of brutal honesty here, the story is made palatable through humor. I am a female, I liked it and learned a lot from it!

So charming and hilarious
nancyjimal18 September 2020
Loves Me, Loves Me not offers a lot of laughs and has a really good vibe to it. There is much to like about this, especially if you like your comedy that way. This is a movie for about 90% of the people I interact with in everyday life in Hollywood and their lifestyle. The movie is based on sexual connections. Fabulous acting. Isabelle Chester is phenomenal as high therapist with its flaws. She is warm, intelligent, big dreaming, rock solid optimistic girl. I love it, the characters, the story and the way the whole film overall.

Entertaining and surprisingly good romantic comedy
farangissiahpour-610575 September 2020
Loves Me, Loves Me Not is a surprisingly good movie with plenty of laughs from the creator of the Italian Job. This is an entertaining movie that delivers on the comedy without trying too hard. The romantic interest between Ali Silver and other male characters work very well.
