GRIS was a very poignant puzzle platform-adventure game, with moody and evocative music, interpretive story and journey, and intriguing character and world design. Everything was very artistic and beautiful to behold. I really loved the water-colored elements. It made for such a stunning and heartfelt journey. The main character (Gris?) was likeable enough, and it's nice to be seeing more female MC's in games for a change. (I.e. Little Nightmares, Child of Light etc.)
I've read this game was meant to symbolize the five stages of grief, and although I did not initially realize this, it gradually became clearer throughout the play through. Knowing that aspect definitely improved my appreciation of the game. (Other comparable games dealing with the subject of grief would be Rime, Blackwood Crossing, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons etc.) Gris was a compelling game, and had some interesting gameplay and mechanics.
While there was a lot to like, I didn't much care for a few aspects of the game, such as some of mechanics feeling clunky and unclear direction (i.e. A few of the under water scenes specifically). Otherwise, this was a pretty fun game with intriguing premise and symbolism. The art felt very "french graphic novel" to me, which I found to be exceptional and highly original. Along with some pretty decent emotional music, the game packed a good punch and made for a memorable play. Overall, this game was certainly worth the play and tugs at the heartstrings at times.
