- A journey with very nice encounters and so many interesting places: Chichen Itza with Marco Antonio Sanchez Ramirez, the director of the archaeological area of Chichen Itza (Unesco World Heritge site with a great history). Then Tulum with Stéphane Palmieri, the manager of the Hotel Don Diego de la Selva: a beautiful site near the seaside and later the visit of a Mayan village (Chanchen Primero) where Stéphane is collaborating with Mayan farmers in beekeeping: we see also how the Mayan people cook their marinated meats in an earth oven. When Sophie arrives at Merida she sees a shooting in the main park with women wearing Mayan embroidery(Yupil and Nieto ): Veronica Yupil and Sophie go to the workshop where women make embroidery, later in the evening Sophie wear a embroidered dress and they spend the evening in the town listening to music and watching traditional Yucatecan dances: on Sunday Veronica's family is on the estate of the family and they prepare "cochinita pibil": a pork meat cooked in an earth oven and also the famous guacamole: the cooked pork is then used for making tacos.Sophie enjoys also the visit of the Río Lagartos reserve with Diego Nuñez, a naturalist guide who showed her the estuary with its fauna (there are about 295 species of birds (pelicans, eagles, pink flamingo) and also crocodiles. In Cancun where she began her journey Sophie met Erick Sommet, a French sculptor, they visit a fruit a vegetables market (nopal, mangoes and cocoa), they see the town from a tower and spoke about the history of Cancun. Later they went to the Underwater Museum of Arts: snorkeling among submarine sculptures. Besides the documentary shows different aspects of the area of Yucatan: the natural reserve of Punta Laguna where the park guide meets a shaman, who makes a cleansing ritual and so the spirits of the place protect the visitor of the forest: inside the forest we can see spider monkeys and howler monkeys: the men of the community have received a training and are now guides while the women together in a cooperative are making ad selling embroideries. Yucatan is also a place of many cenotes, these lakes with cave system: at the Taj Mahal cave David Mayor, a French diver and speleologist explains his duty, the cartography of the cenotes of Mexico. Other nice cultural aspects are the mariachis: we follow Sergio Hinojosa in his work (playing music in the restaurants of a hotel of Tulum) and we meet women riding a horse in the traditional "escaramuza" , the equestrian ballet in the horse festivals: we see also the "charros" ,Mexican cowboys who participate in the traditional equestrian competitions . We know also about the Mayan people in Yucatan ( about 1 million of persons): the Xcaret park where Mayan people tells their history with dances and songs and the story of Muriel Schmitt, a French women who has a very good relationship with Mayan communities (she is godmother of Mayan girls). Finally a little musical touch: in Merida there is a trio singing musical poems and serenades: they used to sing in the central park of Merida promoting the "trova" . this romantic music.—zutterjp48
