A very strong second episode.

Nurse Ratched makes the reasons for her behaviour known, explaining why she's there, and showing there are no limits, she's willing to anything to achieve her goal.

I enjoyed this one just as much as the first, it's very character driven, it's creepy, and so stylish.

That institution is bleak, so much barbarity, dressed up with crisp uniforms and beautifully decorated offices. Horror fans seem to love a lobotomy, it was obviously going to feature, but despite being quite graphic, it seemed to serve to develop the story.

A definite homoerotic vibe here, makes a change for it to come from a slightly more mature cast, it's in keeping with the story. We are unsure if Ratched is interested one way or the other, one thing seems certain, she's prepared to do anything to get what she wants.

Interesting that they went for the same theme music as Jonathan Creek, I suppose there is a bit of magic here, so why not.

Am hooked, 8/10.

Better.

Warning: Spoilers
I mostly enjoyed Ratched's pilot but I also found it was a little too caught up with ticking Ryan Murphy's stylistic boxes to really reach the heights it should have. This episode is far more consistent and feels a lot more like you'd expect a prequel to the source material to feel. The writing while not perfect is tighter and more deliberate and the performances are once again fantastic, particularly Sarah Paulson. I will say though that this episode does fall into the typical homo erotic under/overtones that Ryan Murphy loves to use in all of his shows, although it's not much of a complaint as it is decently effective here due to the period. Cinematography and costuming is wonderful but why so much green?! I'm not sure there's a shot without it! As the credits rolled though I did think to myself that this instalment was a step in the right direction and that I was looking forward to seeing what was to come. 'Ice Pick' gets an 8/10 - P.S I LOVE the intro credits, just had to fit that in there.

4 out of 5 stars.

Good second episode. With the doctor at the asylum introducing lobotomy to the press. Very cold and dark direction. Fun acting. Thrilling direction. And entertaining.

Father Andrews

First we see him in a wheelchair, then he's standing up walking to the bed. I'm confused, lol. Great episode overall though; you get to see more dynamics from Mildred's character, especially her vulnerable side.

Wild

This show is wild for sure, Paulson slays as the queen of creep nurse Ratched. The storyline is weird, but quite interesting. The cinematography and costuming are stunning.

Bologna Is My Favorite Food
wandernn1-81-68327426 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
We start out with a prep scene for what comes next...

A Lobotomy, of 4 patients, performed at the same time in the same room. LOL, one observer passes out . I guess this procedure was a bit much for some people.

Lots of problems occur this episode in the lunch room. Where we do find out that Bologna is Nurse RAtchets favorite food. As I watch this show tho I wonder how many music pieces they are going to steal from other shows.

Oh Cynthia Nixon / Mrs Briggs takes Nurse Rathchet on a day excursion and hten takes her to a gay bar. LOL...Rathcet certainly didnt like that.

Okay so Ratched she obviously is going to poison this remaining father who was witness to her friends murder. Oh it's her brother! Her brother is the one who murdered the priests. We find this out over hugely overpowering Cape FEAR music. She doesn't poison him, she gives him a LOBOTOMY!!! ROFL.... like someone in a mental hospital wouldn't notice a change in his condition.

OMG AND THATS HOW IT ENDS. THE STATE ATTORNEYS COME TO TALK TO THE FATHER AND HE'S IN A WHEELCHAIR AND UNRESPONSIVE. Yeah no sudden change in his behavior there!!! Wow how stupid.

-1 Star for the loud stolen music from Cape Fear during the Nurse Ratched performed lobotomy

-2 Stars for the really lame plot line that no one is going to notice that this father dude didn't get lobotomized??? Come on now.
