Love interest is annoying

Warning: Spoilers
Getting better, though I don't need to stare at a glowing arm for 30 seconds when it means nothing to me as the audience. Guy cleaved some dude in half, that was pretty cool. The fight scene as a whole was much better than the ship attack from Ep 1.

Reason its a 7 and not an 8 or 9 is the guy distracting from the main plot by asking everyone and their brother about his girlfriend. Running to the tent, okay not thinking clearly. Running after carriage, token gesture of his cinematic love for her. Interrogating guy who came back on a bloody horse "You left her with one man?" That one man sneezes more capably then this guy can stand. Busting into the commander's tent and demanding they go after her? Really? ENOUGH ALREADY! If he is willing to do anything for her, steal a horse and go after her, no? Okay then...

Getting going
Calicodreamin25 April 2021
Episode two flowed nicely from the first, adding onto some understanding of the Grishas and introducing the devilishly handsome Barnes. Decent acting and beautifully dark cinematography.

Blend of Power Unleashed, Intrigues Deepen, and Deals with the Devil in Ketterdam's Shadows!
Vaynrat22 November 2023
"Shadow and Bone" continues its flawless streak with a compelling 10/10 second episode in Season 1. The narrative intensifies as Alina Starkov grapples with her newfound identity as the Sun Summoner, setting the stage for a riveting journey to the Little Palace. The ambush by Fjerdan drüskelle adds a layer of danger, expertly showcasing the challenges faced by Grisha in a world where their gifts make them targets. Jessie Mei Li's performance captures Alina's internal struggle brilliantly.

Meanwhile, in the bustling streets of Ketterdam, Kaz Brekker's defiance against Pekka Rollins unfolds in a tense chess game. The introduction of Tante Heleen's proposition to Inej adds depth to her character, revealing the complexities of her past. Kaz's discovery of the Conductor's secret and the unexpected twist involving Arken creates a web of intrigue that keeps viewers hooked.

The episode masterfully balances character development, suspense, and a touch of moral ambiguity, solidifying "Shadow and Bone" as a must-watch fantasy series. A perfect 10/10 for its seamless storytelling, exceptional character dynamics, and a plot that continues to captivate.

Kit Young!
kravitzzoephoto24 April 2021
I've watched the first 3 episodes, and while some cracks show in terms of pacing and story, I'm still enjoying the ride immensely. Netflix has let me down before with fantasy shows - but this one, thankfully, doesn't. *sigh of relief*

Kaz and his band of thieves and outlaws are some of my favorite fictional characters of all time and I have my fingers crossed for a spin off. Kit Young is the real stand out for me so far. I didn't remember caring much for Jesper in the books, but Young brings his character to life.

While Alina is an interesting protagonist (played brilliantly by Jessica Mei Li) I'm not as invested in her story in general. Overall, the cast really elevates this show, and I'm hoping Netflix will let it continue to grow as I think it has the potential to stand on its own (without the help of the book fan base).

And I know some people might not like the show because it feels too "YA" but I honestly think that's a good thing. The show knows it's audience! Personally, I think this show is well made and with time and more seasons will successfully draw in those who have never heard of Leigh Bardugo.

I Blinked And The Whole World Changed

Alina is summoned by the General. The ambush of the wagon and escort was pretty cool. +1 Star

Alina learns that she's going to be a target for the rest of her life because of her power.

The rest of the Ep. Is just filler. 6/10.

Should be better
rudicantfail6 June 2021
First episode was interesting, this second episode I found a touch boring and it dragged on. Really good sets I have to say.
