Well that got weird

In a good way, but still weird. Storyline was interesting, if not a tad predictable. Amazing cinematography and costuming. Great build up to the finale.

It was so good until episode 7

Warning: Spoilers
The reunion of the tracker and the sun summoner was a bit cliche. He is a tracker so somehow it makes it reasonable the the two "accidentally" met in the woods.

However, the naivety of the sun summoner is beyond stupidity; she still trusts the dark general and chose the tracker over the stag. I found it totally unbearable.

After this point everything becomes dull.

A Look Into the Past
MamadNobari9724 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The opening of this episode takes up back to when Aleksander first created The Fold. It's good that they're showing us this instead of telling, but the problem is, they already told us that he created the fold in episode 5 or 6. It would've made a much more impactful twist to see that The Black Heretic actually created the fold instead of knowing about it beforehand through some exposition.

Also I would've liked to see even before when he created the fold and it looks like they don't have a big scale show budget so they only showed a scene with The Darkling and his lover in the woods, then he goes in the palace and makes the fold with 30 soldiers pointing their guns at him.

Now they could've completely dedicated this episode or even more than 10 minutes to The Black Heretic and it had so much potential to explore his past and give him more characterization but just like the whole show to this point that was mostly cliché, they just went with a simple "oh he lost his lover to his enemies so and he went bananas and learned dark magic and that's his backstory." That's just not enough. So far, characterization is not that great and the potential is there, they're just either too lazy to explore it or they were in a rush, or just needed a bigger budget.

This is why it's not surprising to me that the Amazon's Lord of the Rings show cost them half a billion dollars, cuz they know good sht costs much.

And like I love how they make this world alive and they have their own language and all the lore and names and stuff, you really feel like the world actually exist, but at the same time it just kinda looks like a low budget small scale version of GOT.

Shadow and Bone S1E7: The Sacrifice of the Stag, A Dance of Power, and a Rift in the Fold
Vaynrat22 November 2023
"Shadow and Bone" Season 1, Episode 7, claims a perfect 10/10 for its riveting tale of sacrifice, the dance of power, and the unraveling of unexpected betrayals. Alina and Mal's discovery of the Stag takes a heartbreaking turn as Kirigan intervenes, bringing a visceral climax to their quest.

The symbolic act of sparing the Stag transforms into a brutal display of Kirigan's dominance, leaving Alina and Mal ensnared in a web of power. The grafting of the Stag's antlers, Kirigan's own transformation, and the revelation of his control over Alina's power intensify the stakes.

As Kirigan unveils his plan to showcase their powers at the Fold, a reunion with Genya shatters Alina's trust, exposing the interception of letters and adding layers to the intricate plot. Meanwhile, Kaz, Inej, and Jesper's journey back through the Fold promises a collision of storylines.

Episode 7 is a tapestry of emotion, sacrifice, and the manipulation of power, setting the stage for an epic showdown in the Grishaverse. The series continues to captivate with its spellbinding narrative and dynamic character arcs.

Proof that not everything from a novel visually translates well on to the screen.

Warning: Spoilers
Have I really just watched 7 hours of this show to discover that the evil masterplan involves a mutant - who possesses fashion design powers - pushing reindeer antlers in to a woman's shoulder blades whilst the big bad guy does the salt & ice challenge with a 50p coin on his hand instead of a frozen cube?

Fine, Make Me Your Villain.
wandernn1-81-68327425 August 2021
I thoguht the encounter where dude absorbs the army with his shadow power was cool. +1 Star

The scene where General Kenobi kills the stag and recaptures Sunshine Girl and Whipping Boy was good. +1 Star

'Bring me its antlers.'

Kenobi will also be known as General FancyPants, he's like running everything and he's the one who created the FOLD with his power? Nice.

But all this stuff going on, what does Kaz and his little heist crew have to do with any of it?? It doesn't really make a lot of sense.

Wait did General Fancypants just show signs of being offended when Sunshine Girl accused him of being a bad guy?? -1 star for that nonsense.

Those antlers sticking out of Sunshine Girls neck certainly are going to make the love-making with Whipping Boy hard.

Anyways, 6/10.

Umm
mariov76926 April 2021
This episode is just muddled as is the rest of the show. But the highlight is when Alina is on her knees in one scene and she is wearing a black top. The top is off her shoulders initially. Then from a different angle one side is up while the other side is down. Then from another angle the top is on both her shoulders, the direct opposite of how she had it initially. Then switch the angle to the initial one and it is back to being off her shoulders. She doesn't move once in the entire scene and is wearing chains. It is so blatant that you can't miss how distracting it is. It's not the only bad continuity in the show but this one was just more obvious than the others.
