When Netflix released its latest major data set on Thursday — its second under the name of What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report — animated features continued to demonstrate a major impact for the streamer. Of the top 100 most viewed titles in the period of review, from July to December 2023, 33 were animated, bringing in a total of 1,087,600,000 views.
That being said, titles licensed from other studios continued to heavily overshadow Netflix originals, in terms of impact. Of the 33 animated titles in the Top 100, five were produced by Netflix; the Adam Sandler starrer Leo ranked the highest at #3 overall, coming in with 96 million views. Others that made the cut included The Monkey King, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, the Oscar-nominated Nimona, The Sea Beast and Back to the Outback.

Yellowstone director Taylor Sheridan is slated to work on a new project that would adapt S.C. Gwynne’s book to the screen. Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History was published in 2010.

Sheridan won after a rigorous bidding. As one of his so-called passion projects, the filmmaker has been eyeing to work on this since Warner Bros. gained the rights to it.
Native American Actress Doesn’t Support Taylor Sheridan’s Upcoming Project
While others expressed excitement, Native American and Echo actress Jana Schmieding was doubtful and unimpressed. She told Yahoo Entertainment:
“I rolled my eyes so hard, they almost popped out of my face. It’s laughable that he continues to think that he’s the right person for this job. He shoots on his own ranch.

More details emerge about the TarantinoVerse direction Quentin Tarantino’s The Movie Critic was going in, before the film was abandoned.
Now Quentin Tarantino’s The Move Critic has been shelved by the director, possibly forever, details are slowly emerging regarding what might have been.
Tarantino – ever keen to self-mythologise – has famously imposed a ten film limit on his career meaning that his next movie will be the one that ends his career as a director. As such, he seems to be encountering a few problems pulling the trigger on his swan song given all of the pressure he has placed on himself to cap off a brilliant career with a movie that lives up to (or even outdoes) those which have come before it.
As a director who has regularly embellished his own legend, it’s a very Tarantino problem to face. And so, according to The Hollywood Reporter at least,...

Late last week, filmmaker Quentin Tarantino shocked the film industry. All set to start shooting his tenth and would-be final film, “The Movie Critic,” or at least a handful of scenes to be eligible for a tax credit and then resume in 2025, the filmmaker pivoted, changed course, and then canceled the film.
While some details leaked in the aftermath, the film apparently morphed into a “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” spin-off featuring Brad Pitt’s Cliff Booth stuntman character, thanks to Tarantino’s endless rewriting, a new in-depth piece on the cancelation of the film by the Hollywood Reporter is separating some of the facts from the fictions.

Jerry Seinfeld is making some statements about the movie industry as he makes his feature directorial debut in Netflix’s Unfrosted, the comedy about the creation of Pop-Tarts.
In a new interview, the stand-up comedian reflects on his experience in filmmaking at this point in his career.
“It was totally new to me. I thought I had done some cool stuff, but it was nothing like the way these people work,” Seinfeld told GQ in an interview. “They’re so dead serious! They don’t have any idea that the movie business is over. They have no idea.”
He continued, “Film doesn’t occupy the pinnacle in the social, cultural hierarchy that it did for most of our lives. When a movie came out, if it was good, we all went to see it. We all discussed it. We quoted lines and scenes we liked. Now we’re walking through a fire hose of water,...

As Samuel L. Jackson's bounty hunter says in "The Hateful Eight," "Let's slow it down. Let's slow it wayyyyy down." That's the vibe right now when it comes to what was originally going to be filmmaker Quentin Tarantino's 10th and final movie, "The Movie Critic." Although it initially seemed that the film was on a smooth, steady track to getting made fairly soon, Tarantino has changed his mind and decided to drop it altogether, according to Deadline.
As reported earlier this year, "The Movie Critic" would have re-teamed Tarantino with "Inglourious Basterds" and "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood" star Brad Pitt as well as that film's distribution studio Sony. It would've been a film about "Travis Bickle if he were a film critic," according to comments the filmmaker made last year about the script.

Quentin Tarantino is reported to have abandoned The Movie Critic as his tenth and final film after changing his mind and is going back to square one.
The project was being set up to start production later this year in California and would have received $20.2m from the state’s Film and TV Tax Credit Program 3.0.
In February it emerged the filmmaker was reuniting with Brad Pitt, who starred for him in 2009’s Inglourious Basterds and more recently won the supporting actor Oscar for portraying Cliff Booth, the stuntman who was not to be messed with in 2019’s Once Upon A Time…...

The Movie Critic was set to be the tenth and final film from Quentin Tarantino, but according to Deadline, the director has decided to scrap the movie and start from scratch. That’s some shocking news.
It was expected that production on The Movie Critic would have gotten underway later this year, but the report states that Tarantino had recently rewritten the script, which caused a delay. This gave him time to think about what he truly wanted to be his final work, and apparently, that’s not The Movie Critic. Deadline said that Tarantino “simply changed his mind.“

Quentin Tarantino sets up a Cannes farewell for his directorial career, as The Movie Critic is set to start filming towards the end of 2024.
Following the now-established narrative, writer/director Quentin Tarantino will be bringing his directorial career to a close with his next film. It’s many years since he announced this plan, and in recent years there’s been no shortage of speculation as to what that final feature will be.
Speculation on that front is over: he’s written, and will be directing, The Movie Critic. To save you reading one of those arduous ‘here’s everything we know about the film’ articles, the guts of it are that the movie has been inspired by a real, unnamed individual. There was speculation it might be the late critic Pauline Kael, but apparently not so.
Instead, Quentin Tarantino will be looking for a male lead to play the title character.

As expected, the Cannes Film Festival line-up is pretty spectacular with new films from Yorgos Lanthimos, Andrea Arnold and David Cronenberg heading to the fest.
As the days are getting longer and there’s a tiny bit more sunshine in between the showers of rain, that can only mean one thing. The Cannes Film Festival is almost upon us.
Of course, us peasants rarely get to go, but it is fun to read the reactions from the glitzy world premieres as the stars gather in the picturesque town of Cannes.
And this year’s festival line-up is a doozy. We already knew George Miller was heading to the Croisette with Furiosa, Francis Ford Coppola is bringing Megalopolis and Kevin Costner will be premiering his new film, too, but there’s a whole heap of great filmmakers heading out to the beach with their films.

Seeing someone like Millie Bobby Brown subjected to ongoing bullying and criticism because of her accent is depressing in a society that values individuality and embraces diversity. The young actress, who is best known for her portrayal of Eleven in the popular series Stranger Things, has been the target of hurtful comments and relentless criticism regarding the way she speaks.
Yet rather than succumbing to the negativity, Brown, 20, has chosen to rise above it and silence her critics with confidence and grace. In a recent interview with internet personality, Max Balegde, the Spain-born actress, delivered a few harsh remarks to those who poke fun at her irregular patterns of accent.

Brad Pitt could be about to join the cast of Quentin Tarantino’s latest (and possibly last) film, The Movie Critic. More here:
It’s all up there in the headline, really, isn’t it? Brad Pitt might be joining The Movie Critic, Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film which the director has long said will be his last.
Tarantino and Pitt previously worked together on Inglourious Basterds and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, with Pitt memorably playing the stuntman Cliff Booth in the latter. In fact, Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr has an intriguing theory about Pitt’s role in The Movie Critic – that he’ll be playing the lead, and will reprise the role of Cliff Booth.

According to Deadline, Brad Pitt will be reuniting with Quentin Tarantino for The Movie Critic. This would mark the third time that the pair have worked together, as Pitt starred in Inglourious Basterds and co-starred in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.
It’s not known if Brad Pitt will play the title character in The Movie Critic, but Deadline believes that he will. The outlet also believes that Sony Pictures will be back to distribute the new film, but nothing has been confirmed. However, it’s also possible that Tarantino, who’s carried on writing about the life and career of Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton and his stuntman Cliff Booth (as iconically played by Pitt), might be having the actor reprise his Oscar-winning role.

In one story this morning, Will Smith has been out and about, confirming that post-strikes, I Am Legend 2 is still in good shape and crucially, has held onto the film’s second lead, Michael B Jordan.
Unfortunately, it looks like the same can’t be said for Quentin Tarantino’s The Movie Critic, the director’s planned final feature film before he becomes ‘a man of letters’ and a whole host of other roles that don”t start with ‘film’ and end with ‘director’.
World of Reel is reporting that this year’s strikes have thrown the film’s production plan into disarray, given that back in early summer, everything was said to be moving into place for a September shoot. Then the actors’ strike happened, that...

"This is our house - we are not about to die here!" Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a Halloween horror comedy called The Curse of Bridge Hollow, from director Jeff Wadlow. It looks like Netflix has made their own same concept, different characters version of the story also in Spirit Halloween: The Movie. A father and his teenage daughter are forced to team up and save their town after an ancient and mischievous spirit causes Halloween decorations to come to life and wreak havoc. The film stars Marlon Wayans and Priah Ferguson as the father and daughter, along with a fun comedy cast including Kelly Rowland, Rob Riggle, John Michael Higgins, Nia Vardalos, Lauren Lapkus, Holly J. Barrett, Myles Vincent Perez, Abi Monterey, and Helen Slayton-Hughes. Well, thankfully this doesn't look as bad as the usual Wayans comedies, but it still seems like dumb fun anyway. ›››

(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)
Stephen King's name is synonymous with horror. He is one of the most prolific authors in history and his tales have, as is often the case with best-selling authors, gone on to inspire many adaptations over the years. Some good ("Cujo"), some bad ("The Dark Tower"), and some stone-cold cinematic classics ("The Shawshank Redemption"). But it was in 2017, when one of King's most beloved tales was finally brought to life on the big screen, that the king finally took his crown.
That is the year that saw Warner Bros. release the remake of "It," based on King's novel about the child-eating clown of the same name that had previously inspired a TV miniseries starring Tim Curry as Pennywise. But that version,...

Gravitas Ventures shares with Bloody an exclusive clip from The Movie, written and directed by Michael Mandell, and starring Bonnie Root and Jarrod Pistilli.
In the clip, a captive woman refuses to comply and is punished with the removal of one of her little piggies.
“Former child star Janet Gillespie is home alone one night when the doorbell rings and Walter, a delivery boy, shows up with a big package on a dolly. He recognizes her. Takes a selfie with her. Tells her he wrote a screenplay for her and even has it with him. Soon, Janet’s bound to the dolly and Walter’s shooting his movie right then and there in her house.
“Of course, Walter is no delivery boy at all. He’s a renegade filmmaker doing whatever it takes to get his movie in the can, which just so happens to be the worst movie of all time,...
