- Feeling caught in a web of lies, Andy searches for answers on her own. Laura sends a message on live TV and soon finds her past catching up with her.
- Moving into Pieces of Her episode 3, we start with a flashback to an economic conference held in Oslo 30 years before. It's the conference where pharmaceutical tycoon Martin Queller (Terry O'Quinn) was shot and killed on stage.
Present-day Laura prepares for her interview. A man we haven't met before watches her on television. Laura talks about finding a truce and being an army for change, ending this senseless violence, and other interesting phrases that appear to mean something to him. She's definitely trying to send a message. Checking in with Andy, she's forced to switch cars again, this time using the money from her mom's suitcase to purchase a used vehicle from a nearby lot. It's a good idea since Jack put a tracker on her car.
Laura's message has been received. Another man we haven't seen yet arrives to talk to her. He offers to get her out of the country until things settle down. "Do you know where he is? Has he reached out to you?" He doesn't. "Then you can't help me." Laura threatens to go to the cops and tell them exactly what she knows. It's all very cryptic. He advises that Laura give it some thought. "You know how to reach us." Whatever Laura is involved in appears to include the politician Jasper Queller (David Wenham), a man on the shortlist to become a candidate for vice president and son of Martin Queller. Jasper blames a domestic terrorist group called Army of the Changing World led by Nick Harp for his father's death. Laura is shown to be romantically involved with Nick during their youth. Then Laura gets a phone call from a mysterious man, "Hello...Jane."
Instead of continuing to Maine, Andy goes to Charlie (Gil Birmingham) (Laura's Witness Protection Program handler, which Andy doesn't know.. She simply knows him as uncle Charlie) in Alabama, one of the few places she feels safe. But not long after arriving, things get weird (again). Charlie mentions Carrolltown even though Andy never said that's where she was. Andy starts looking through Charlie's belongings and notices that he has stashed several photos in a drawer. Apparently, he's married and has been lying about a lot of things. Spooked, Andy rushes out of Charlie's house and calls Gordon to demand answers, including asking who Paula is. From there, Gordon confronts Laura. Things are getting ugly, and Andy is, understandably, pissed at her parents for all the secrets they're keeping from her.
Andy borrows a stranger's iPad to search for Paula again. This time, she finds her with the correct name: Paula Kunde, a woman formerly involved in the Army of the Changing World (Formed and led by Nick Harp) involved in the kidnapping and murder of a professor named Alex Maplecroft and the murder of Martin Queller. Paula is currently serving an 80-year sentence in Texas.
A flashback shows Annette Queller taking her three kids, Jane, Andrew and Jasper, and sneaking them out of the house only for Martin to intervene. There was discord in the Queller family. It is not clear why Annette wanted to get the kids away from Martin. From the online articles, Andy manages to find Paula's attorney and visits her at the law firm. But the earliest appointment she can get with her is three weeks away. Andy is forced to get crafty, following an employee into the bathroom and to steal her ID. Outside, Jack has followed Andy and is again investigating her car. He pops the trunk and finds the suitcase full of money inside.
In the final moments of the episode, Andy puts on a brunette wig and holds "Sheila's" ID. She will attempt to get a face-to-face with Paula's attorney, or maybe even Paula herself! As for Laura, she attempts to book a flight to Texas and see Paula and/Or to intercept Andy. Either way, she doesn't make it there since several cars surround her and force her out. Charlie walks out to greet Laura, or "Jane," as he calls her, from inside a house with floor-to-ceiling glass. "Hey, Jane. You've been busy."
