South Korea came relatively late to the zombie-cinema sweepstakes, making up for lost time most notably with 2016’s “Train to Busan,” which has already generated a sequel. Nonetheless, “Zombie for Sale” As in those films, things here center on a somewhat hapless lower-class nuclear unit who get going when the going gets outlandishly tough.
Lee Min-jae’s debut feature finally sees distribution on these shores — amid a different kind of viral contagion crisis — nearly a year and a half after its home-turf premiere, during which time it has opened in other Asian territories and played festivals primarily as “The Odd Family: Zombie on Sale.” Amiably slow to gear up toward a satisfying action climax, this endearing zom-com is making its simultaneous U.S. and U.K. commercial debut as part of cult-cinema-minded Arrow Video Channel’s July programming slate in both subscription territories.

Also known as “The Odd Family: Zombie On Sale”, Zombie For Sale, released through Arrow Video a couple of weeks ago, is a zombie horror comedy with elements of romance tossed in for good measure. If you’re thinking, however, “oh no, not another zom-rom-com” then think again, because this isn’t a run of the mill romance with zombies. It has plenty of original and unique things going on to make it very different from anything else you would have seen in the genre, and it makes for an absolute joy of a film.
I was unsure what to expect when I went into this one, but in the end I found myself thoroughly besotted with it. It’s hilarious, cute, charming and looks delightful too. The cast throw themselves, feet-first, into...

"Monetizing the monster." Arrow Video has unveiled an official Us trailer for a Korean dark comedy zombie horror film titled Zombie for Sale, also known as The Odd Family: Zombie On Sale. This already opened in Korea last year, and it stopped by the Toronto After Dark Film Festival and Five Flavours Film Festival. When a pharmaceutical company's illegal experiments inadvertently create a zombie, the Park family finds it and tries to profit from it. They lock him up and allow other locals to be bitten for youthful benefits, but of course we all know where this leads. "With a cabbage-munching zombie who prefers ketchup over blood, and a dysfunctional family that gives the Kim family of Parasite a run for their money, Zombie for Sale will warm the deadest of hearts and breathe some new life into the zombie genre." Starring Jeong Jae-yeong, Jung Ga-ram, Kim Nam-gil, Lee Soo-kyung,...

The Korean film industry has done rather well with the zombie genre. They put them on a Train headed to Busan, placed them in the Joseon period in “Rampant” and the Netflix drama “Kingdom” and domesticated one in “The Odd Family: Zombie on Sale”. Now, it seems the zombies have trapped people in buildings in Jo Il-Hyeong’s debut film “#Alive”.
Synopsis
A city is infected by a mysterious virus, which causes the city to spiral out of control. Joon-Woo and Yoo-Bin struggle to survive in an isolated apartment complex from those infected with the virus. Everything including internet, phone, and electricity has been disconnected around the apartment.
The film pairs a blonde Yoon Ah-in (“Burning”) with Park Shin-hye (“Heart Blackened”) for the first time. It is scheduled to release in June, 2020.
Please Note: This trailer is best viewed on a handheld device, like a mobile phone or a tablet.

Caitlin Moran and Coky Giedroyc on the red carpet for How To Build A Girl Photo: Glasgow Film Festival
The penultimate day of this year’s Glasgow Film Festival was the only one apart from the opening day without a free morning science fiction film, which resulted in some fans sulking that it just didn’t feel right without one of festival co-director Allan Hunter’s introductions. It also saw Frightfest get off to a rocky start, as there was a problem getting scheduled serial killer thriller Anderson Falls to play. Attempts to stream it off Vimeo straight onto the big screen were getting nowhere so the decision was eventually made to show A Night Of Horror: Nightmare Radio, which had been scheduled to be the mini-fest’s closing film, instead, but the loosely structured anthology left fans who had been spoiled by the previous night’s anthology, The Mortuary Collection,...

The Glasgow Film Festival is nearly upon us, which means that cool news is starting to drop. Scotland's most prestigious film event is also home to the genre-friendly FrightFest Glasgow programming strand, where the UK's premier genre event shares the wealth with it's northern brothers. Among the many gems in the program is director Lee Min-Jae's 2019 horror comedy, Zombie For Sale, previously known as The Odd Family: Zombie On Sale. I saw the film as a part of Fantasia last summer, and it is a really great time with a few novel new ideas sure to please horror fans who've found the zombie subgenre to be overexposed. Arrow Video, the film's Us/Can/UK distributor released a brand new poster image for the film along with the...

In Lee Min-jae's The Odd Family: Zombie On Sale, the answer is clear, you monetize! The issue here is that the fountain of youth isn't an actual fountain, but a half-conscious undead ghoul whose bite provides more than a little get-up-and-go to the elderly citizens of remote Poongsan village. The Park family discovers this creature's powers when he bites their patriarch just as they are in the middle of a family crisis. Grandpa Man-duk gets his head gnawed on, leading to a renewed vigor and a brand new lease on life. Meanwhile, his recently unemployed son Mig-gul (Kim Man-gil) has just turned up...
