The Rage in Placid Lake (2003)
little Aussie gem!
I won a free ticket to see this movie (thanks Nova 96.9!!) and hadn't really heard much about it.... to be honest I thought it would be pretty boring, but, a free movie is a free movie....
To my surprise right from the beginning this movie made me laugh out loud and won me over pretty quickly!
The cast was great.... Ben Lee was brilliant as Placid....
I definitely recommend this movie, it's definitely a a little Aussie gem!
Beyond with James Van Praagh (2002)
Forget what you know, believe what you see.
I heard about this show a few months back, and wishing that it was on Australian TV, I finally got my wish! Beyond has been showing on Aussie TV for a couple of weeks now and I'm (& many others are) definitely hooked.
In a semi-similar format to 'Crossing Over with John Edward' James Van Praagh is the go-between for spirits & audience members occasionally mixing in past-live experiences & paranormal information, interviews etc.
James also has a 'skeptical' co-host in Lisa Canning who interviews audience members post reading.
Unfortunately, a few weeks ago, and after only a few months into the show, 'Beyond' stopped production (ie, was cancelled).
I really hope the powers that be reconsider this, as I think that this show will gain a huge audience as the 'paranormal' is becoming more popular, especially in TV & Movie format.
Beyond gets a BIG THUMBS UP from me!!!!!
Salem's Lot (1979)
Great horror movie... but not after you've read the book...
I have a general rule for movies, especially Stephen King ones.
My rule is, see the movie, THEN read the book.
If you do it the other way around, there's a big chance you'll be disapointed. If you're not, at least the book will expand on already created ideas and images.
I saw this movie years ago when I was a child, and it was a great and scary horror movie then (as scary as a late 70's movie can get I suppose!).
Now, as an adult I thought I would finally read the book, and then see the movie again, of course as you guess there is no comparison.
Just like "that other" Stephen King horror movie, Salem's Lot's been sliced & diced to suite the audience, especially the shortened version of Salems Lot!
Maybe, just maybe *hint hint* one day Stephen King will get this remade into the movie it was meant to be, just like he did with "that other" one.
The Ghost Train (1941)
Don't give this old B&W movie the wide berth!
This movie reminded me that some old Black & White movies are definitely worth the look.
Initially I had some reservations, however from the beginning of the movie until the end I was captivated. I was VERY impressed with the mixture of drama, suspense & comedy.
Arthur Askey (Tommy Gander) is HILARIOUS and had me in stitches the whole time.
Definitely add this movie to your movie-night for some light relief from the sometimes depressing and "too" powerful or overly "funny" movies of today.
