Rock-N-America (1984)
HIDDEN GEM
HARD TO BELIEVE I STAYED HOME NIGHTS FOR THIS..EVEN THOUGH I LIVED ONLY 10 MINUTES OUT OF MANHATTAN BACK THEN.
---This show was addictive in it's nutti ness and seemingly unconnected ties to any major music studio influence ( a major plus by the way), Ever since I watched this series my eyes caught every little side entertainment thing Rick came attached to. The capper was that the music choices were obscure gold most of the time.. You start to wonder how no one in the music video biz did not catch onto this for an extended time.... On a side note this show lasted less than the words required for the review...geez.
Green Lantern (2011)
DC HEROES got their fanbase in 1950-1960 are the creators of these films born in 1980 or later?
To me this film tried to cover the first 10 issues of this comic and character in one fell swoop, Too much tech and the bad guys were the worst and least exciting of that period. Other than the original "The Flash" TV series, no DC comics character, especially from the 60's has been done justice on film or video. The film starts by trying to impress upon us the main character is irresponsible and not as skilled as he believes he is and then spends more than an hour undoing that impression. The original comics never had Hal Jordan in such an adversarial relationship with his fellow Lantern characters and that stuck in my craw the whole movie. It's hard to give an up to date honest review of this film and other films based on most of the DC comics from the sixties because of this.
Psych 2: Lassie Come Home (2020)
A full movie just might be too much
As with the prior movie, a full 2 hours seems to make the usual banter begin to look tired and repetitive, even the references to TV, movies, and personalities ("Us", for example) have left the 80's genre, the show's strong point...I wish they could find a nice plot line to keep them in Santa B for good as I'm losing interest as the show seems to fade when in the big city.
One final unusual point is that the Psych team turned out to be wrong on almost every hunch here, especially who were the main criminals and the real heroes turned out to be everyone else, that never happened in the series.
Superman & Lois (2021)
WHY IS THIS EVEN ON THE AIR
Other than a few role reversals, nothing distinguishes this from the other multiple superman shows of the past but then again we got Charmed, Dallas, 90210 etc. To also waste our time..geez.
Roman J. Israel, Esq. (2017)
Roman J Israel and the music
The movie has some upsetting premises but deals with them nicely most of the time. My big point is the soundtrack...finally someone threw in some goodies from the great Jimmy Castor Bunch...god I missed them
Project Almanac (2015)
how do movie makers think this handheld camera movies improve it
I really liked the cast and storyline but just cannot get past the erratic camera work..ditto with all those others of similar style (Cloverfield, Chronicle etc.)... sometimes i found myself looking for a character who seemed to have left the screen suddenly....why why why do this
Blast from the Past (1999)
ridiculous premise and plot but comedy at least charming
Seeing some of these idiot reviews makes me understand how people voted for Trump and keep TV shows on the air and make Kardashians wealthy and believe Foxnews is close to being news
Just a few ridiculous premises... 1. no radio in the shelter? 2. no phone to contact relatives either during the stay or once they return to the surface?? 3. not one trip to a library or school to research the past 35 years?? 4. just a few hours of watching TV in his hotel would have wised him up to modern times ?? 5. stocks went up even in the 50's ...why not be aware they'd be worth much more now ??
if you put logic aside...the movie becomes slightly believable...I emphasize slightly
there's been plenty of TV shows/movies made already that dealt with the "fish out of water" scenario when living in a different time period ..either past or future...ie. "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" "Hot Tub Time Machine" "Back to the Future" 1,2,3 etc. watch one of those
Stargate SG-1: Children of the Gods (1997)
Best Showtime series since "The Paper Chase"
I mistakenly let some of first season slide by since I wasn't a fan of the movie. Was I ever wrong. Cast is superb all the way down to the smaller leads, e.g. the base doctor (Rothery) and other base personnel, as well as some great storylines. Just the right amount of humor mixed in with believable current time Sci-fi. Try not to miss, Showtime foolishly only shows the episodes once weekly unlike mega-repeating HBO series.
