Judge Dredd (1995)
Not too bad
3 June 1999
I've seen Judge Dredd a couple of times now....Once in the movie theatre, a couple times on VHS and I just recently rented it on DVD. Some of the action was definitely cartoony due to the fact of a PG-13 rating. If this movie would've been intended for adults instead of teenagers, it could've been better.

The best performance by far was by the one and only, Rob Schnieder. This guy is hilarious and he gave the movie some comic relief. Sylvester Stallone, on the other hand, did a pretty terrible acting job. Armand Assante wasn't too bad as some say, but he did get annoying after awhile.

The visuals for the movie were excellent. The car scene gave me kind of memories of the cars in "Fifth Element". Overall, given the visuals and Rob Schnieder and the robot was very cool....this movie was actually quite enjoyable. I recommend it.

Psycho (1998)
Disturbing
6 December 1998
You can't really say that the new Psycho is better than the old Psycho or the other way around because you can't compare the same movie. It has all the same lines and everything so how can you compare it?

I think Vince Vaughn did a good job taking over the job that Anthony Perkins did and Anne Heche did a nice job taking over for Janet Leigh. The movie was exactly like the original although there was a few more spots of blood but that was the only thing that changed. For those who have seen the orginal Psycho, don't go out of your way to see this. For those who haven't, it's a good idea to go see this. It is a great movie and I'm seeing remakes of "The Birds" in the future.

Very good
6 December 1998
I just saw this movie and liked it. I think there were some many good things about this movie. For starts:

1) The fighting sequences. There were some excellent swordfights and the ending was also a great fight scene.

2) Anthony Hopkins. This guy is one helluva actor. His role in "Silence of the Lambs" was great and this movie shows that he can play various roles. He took every scene he was in and made all the other actors look like they should've gone back to acting school.

3) That chick is fine!!! :P

The only problem I had with this film is Antonio Banderas' accent. Sometimes, I think it's hard to understand what he's saying because of his thick Spanish accent. I had the same problem in Assassins.

Overall, this movie is an excellent 4 star movie. The beginning was a bit slow but then the pace moved quickly and it just flowed nice. A great script filled with nice dialogue and action scenes in the right places.

Simon Birch (1998)
A modern-day classic
17 September 1998
Well, all I can say about this move is that it is terrific. Not many movies make me actually cry (except for the Land before Time but everybody cried on that movie) but this really did. There were parts in here that just sunk into you and it felt like you were a part of the scene and you cried. And you weren't the only one. You are amongst a whole theater of tears. That's how serious this movie is.

GRADE: A+ (Definitely Oscar worthy)

Underworld (1996)
Terrible
9 September 1998
If there was a list to mark the worst movies in history (actually there is on this page), I think Underworld could probably top that list. Given, Denis Leary put on a great job, shooting people and making wisecracks, the movie had no direction and I don't even think the director knew what the hell to do with it. This script belongs in a wastebasket. When one man makes your movie somewhat (remember I said somewhat) watchable.....there's problems.
